Personally, I would prefer a US seller. As QF said, taxes will not be a problem. Nor will shipping and the risk of customs delay. And it just seems more secure in that it will be easier to deal with the seller should problems arise. I assume you will have bababebi authenticate the bag before you buy.

I hope everyone is safe during this crazy time.

I have an update on the bag situation:

1. IG reseller from Malaysia/Singapore eclaire atelier is offering the black B30 GHW for apprx $16000. However, I can't see the date stamp and receipt until after I make a $2k deposit, which makes me nervous. Just buying through IG abroad makes me nervous although they are recommended by clients Mel in Melbourne and Jamie Chua on eclaire atelier's IG account.

2. I found a US reseller who has both black togo B30s in rose gold and yellow gold hardware for $18k. She's willing to send me the rose gold hardware next week and if I want to exchange it for yellow gold, can do so if I cover shipping.

Well, $18k is better than $20k! Which option would you choose?

#1. Absolutely no way! Send them a $2,000 deposit with zero proof of authenticity? Yeah, right.
#2. Possibly depending on how reputable her reviews are.

You should know many scammers and counterfeiters are waiting to get picture of receipt and date stamp especially now when the date stamp is written on the receipt to scam other people. It would be extremely unwise to send them and share them to everyone who asked. Before u give ur opinion on a reputable business i suggest to u just a bit research on them, because all sg reseller work like this no reseller would ever just share bag receipt to everyone. If u read op post it clearly stated detail pic are sent except date and receipt pic. All of the Singapore reseller have a money back guarentee policy to protect their customer and will authenticate bag for u if u wish with bababebi. The deposit is refundable if bag is not authentic so i dont know why u assume seller will just run away when they have such an establish business with two stores one in Malaysia one in Singapore

There is such a stigmatization on this forum and fear mongering that all business are in it to scam u it crazy... just do ur research on the business before u buy and see the reviews, the testimonial, the policy and especially what they offer for ur protection in case sth goes wrong

I personally feel very offended by the statement u made, just because resellers are asking payment via wire transfer which is practically what ALL singaporean reseller do like luxelexicon ruelamode doesnt mean they are out there to scam u. All of them accept credit card payment just only physically at the store while wire rransfer is reserve for oversea client. They have physical shop where u can examine the bag urself if you are worried so putting this box upon singapore reseller is extreme irresponsible of you. I hope op does not listen to this advice because im sure many of us here in the forum has paid by wire transfer

Instead op should look into the reseller background who they have dealt with who they have backing behind them, any influencer who use them and speak with the reseller to get more information.

Unless you are the reseller (you're doing a lot of defending of them here, so seems possible) no need to be personally offended. The wire transfer issue has zero to do with Singaporean resellers - it has to do with anyone asking for this kind of payment.
I lived in Singapore, I know these stores too.
I will reiterate, it's not wise to pay anyone you don't know by wire transfer. I have paid an Hermès boutique by wire and that's the only time I would consider it. Credit cards and PayPal work just fine internationally.

Agree with you 100%. The thing about wire transfers is, there's no recourse or protection for the buyer if you don't get anything at the end. It's just too much of a risk for me. Credit cards and PP have buyer protections.

Hoping OP lets us know which one they get!

Are you affiliated with Eclaire Atelier? You have a lot of posts recommending this reseller. Their IG has some lovely bags and I'd love to hear from other TPF members who have reviews and experience with them.

I want a black Birkin 30cm with rose gold or yellow gold hardware. I am interested but not sure if I will like rose gold on a black Birkin so the reseller is allowing one exchange for the same bag in gold hardware (or a B25) in case I don't like the rose gold.

I want a bag in new or excellent condition. Flaccid handles on pre-loved bags really turn me off! I don't have patience to try my luck in Paris or build a relationship with an SA. It's not even possible at the moment and I want the bag soon.

I understand that rose gold hardware is rare right now but I am gravitating towards yellow gold.

I know it depends on one's circumstances but is paying $20k for a new black 2019 togo Birkin 30cm in either rose gold or yellow gold insane?
Given the circumstances, you seem exactly the person that those resellers helps, just go for it, don’t care if anyone thinks or not that it is insane. RGH bags are rare, harder to get and beautiful. I got a BK25 RGH Black Togo and it’s not extremely different from normal GH, but it’s just more special. If you have the money, if you want it fast, it you want this new, if you trust this seller, just do it. About the other two options, I wouldn’t like buying a bag overseas, and I would consider another seller in my country with lower price only if as reputable as the first one. If you ask general people about buying Hermès shopping experience, and a Birkin price, 98% would say is insane. If you say that you are paying 20K in a “rare” combination like black Togo RGH but brand new and you wanted it fast.. to many serious Hermès collectors, 98% won’t think it’s insane. Only you can judge it. Below a picture of my BK25, rose gold hardware is amazing, hard not to love. Good luck

Hello op, I know the feeling of wanting exactly something now now. But please consider buying from a physical store where you can examine the bag in person, even if you have to wait a bit and can’t get the bag immediately. $18k or $20k or $10k is a lot of money to wire to anybody.

Even for a reputable reseller, genuine human mistakes can occur that may not be picked up in photos even with the best of care or intentions. Sorry if I’m of no help I’m just not comfortable with shipping such big ticket items more so from overseas. The only time I shopped via shipping the bag which seemed perfect in photos came with defects. I was very lucky and very thankful I got a full refund.

As for receipts, I am sure they can send you a photo with name of original buyer, transaction ID or credit card details redacted. But it may not be helpful because you may not be able to assess as receipts from overseas countries can be in very different formats from what we are used to seeing in our home country. I’ve bought from a reseller in person who only gave me a charge slip.

You should certainly be shown the date stamp on the bag too. At the very least they should show the year stamp - should be D or Y now for brand new bags 2019-2020.

Although $20,000. seems outlandish, if you compare it to the shopping strategy of establishing a relationship with an SA and making multiple purchases to make an impression, by the time all of these purchases add up and you get lucky enough to be offered the B of your choice by your SA, your total investment may be well beyond the $20,000 for a resale bag that you could have been enjoying for months/years while you were making all those incidental purchases. My caveat would be as others stated, store fresh and in a box.

I don’t think it’s insane given you are paying a premium for not having to wait 6 months to more than a year through a S/A at H. I just placed an order the other day for a 30cm Black Togo Birkin with rose gold hardware. My S/A said 6 months to a year before I may see it in person. I’m okay to wait as I have a 35cm Etoupe Birkin with GHW and love it! I’ve had a relationship with my S/A at H for 6 plus years and purchased “smaller” items ex-Evelyn, garden party, scarves, jewelry, wallets before I asked about a Birkin. Now she reaches out every 6 months to see what I would like to order. So basically you are paying for that....

Oddly enough 20k for a BNIB bag in today’s environment doesn’t seem to be that insane. I’ve seen this bag go for close to 30k recently

Agreed...it seems like people forgot B30 retail for a lot more in the US than in Europe ($11,200 usd for togo), plus 8-10% sales tax. Deducting the original cost, the profit that the reseller is making is actually less than 1:1 pre-spend if you were to build a relationship with the SA at the boutique plus a longer waiting time if you want RGHW, but even then it's not guaranteed, there may be a lot of VIP's shopping at the same boutique, or your SA left and you have to start over. So many variables. I've seen B/K selling at 25k - 30k mark at reputable reseller shops too, smaller sizes always cost more if not doubled
