I love that you used to buy your Mom a fancy purse each year — what a thoughtful daughter . I think when it comes to adults, buying something for them that they would never buy for themselves is real special and the best part of gifting. Funny what you said about your sister — guess we all know some “regifters” in our lives.
I’ve bought my Mom all her Coach bags because she would never buy one herself. She loves them, appreciates, and uses them but she wouldn’t spend that kinda of money on a purse. I always buy her sale ones, kinda like I do for myself lol. Funny because the other wk a family friend looked at my Mom’s purse and says “Oh wow a Coach bag! How nice!” My Mom turns to her and says “My daughter always buys for me. She likes nice bags. “ lol. My
Mom doesn’t have a problem spending money, but handbags more than a certain price she does. Heck I *used* to be that way! Well I guess I still am, I just upped the amount. Hahah

Ah geez how frustrating. What about suggesting they do consumable items since it’s obvious they feel like they need to give you something tangible? Such as food items (something interesting,
Ethnic, homemade, etc), beverages, hand/body products, etc. It’s tough to buy
for my bro and SIL so I’ll often look for interesting edible/consumable items when I travel, for example. They don’t need much in the way of stuff and they both have a pretty diverse and open palate and do appreciate those things. Just a thought.

I got them to start doing this for my bday. They know I love trying different beers so they go to one of our beer stores where you can buy single cans of unique rare beers and pick out a case. I’ll tell my BF he should request something similar for his next bday. He likes a local pickled food vendor so that would be a good easy gift they can get him! Good idea.

I long ago discovered that once we're adults, gifts are more about the giver than the receiver:P

When my mom was still alive, I would buy her an expensive premier purse each year. She would NEVER buy that for herself. I would buy her something that was sparkly and flashy, as she loved sparkle. She would wear those purses into the ground. But had I asked her what she wanted, she would have insisted she didn't want them.

On the other hand, my sister and I can never see eye to eye on gifts. She is a miser and and will always give "regifted" items from her closet. I am not against this per se, except that she has really cheap, bad taste lol.:P:sick:

One year you can guess what happened. She gifted me something I had bought for HER. I was going to let it slip unremarked on, but my mother of course said something out loud. Sigh.

Holidays. Meh.

Oh my goodness LOL

That’s so nice of you!

I bought my Mom a Coach once, she seemed to like it but I never saw her use it lol But then she tells me about the Tignanello bag she bought on QVC haha I do think those are nice quality bags though. But now I know don’t buy her a Coach bag lol I have given her a couple of my small older styles that won’t sell for much on eBay. She does seem to like those so go figure!

Edit: I just remembered (I think I posted about this when it happened), for her last bday I took her to the mall and said you can pick any wallet and I’ll buy it! Because that’s what she wanted. We went to Coach, Michael Kors, Kate Spade etc. She picked a $40ish one from Fossil and still brings up how much she loves it LOL

Years ago I bought my daughter the American Girl Christmas tree. It's really tiny. We put that up a few years when I didn't want to mess with a tree. We haven't done a tree for years. I have boxes of ornaments in the garage, just waiting for one of my kids to take them.

One year when we still lived out in the country, we cut down our own tree on our property. That was really hard with just a hand saw. Trees look much smaller outside than indoors. It was too big for our house!

oh, AG! my girls still have their dolls. lol about the tree, we did that one year... went to a tree farm and way oversized the thing omg it was hilarious... straight out of a comedy. Dh had to chop more of it off just to get it to skim the ceiling, the girth of it was epic the entire living room was a tree:lol: smelled gorgeous though!, we vowed after that "caution tree looks smaller in woods than home" .

You are a sweet daughter as well :). I am not as good :( — I gifted my Mom a couple of my legacy duffles when I was downsizing. But a year later, she gave one back to me since she wasn’t using her leather bags anymore. I am guessing she will probably give back the other duffle soon, lol.

Well my will power could only last so long but I’m glad I didn’t give in earlier because the deals on the coach website today are great! Extra 15% off some styles AND 15% Rakuten rebate!

I got the cooper in beechwood, Alexa clutch in midnight, and a couple charms I’ve been eyeing since they were released.

I’ve been waiting and waiting on the Alexa clutch and $85 after all sales and rebates was too good to resist! I’ve been looking to replace my too small black evening bag for a couple of years now and I’ve been wanting the Alexa! Glad I waited for a better deal.

lol, I was going to ask our ban Islanders this morning if we survived all the Black Friday sales. I think you got some beautiful things — can’t wait to see them. I am drawn to the Cooper (in heather grey especially) even though I don’t think the style would work for me so I am interested in seeing yours. I shouldn’t buy any more bags (famous last words) but I would love a good heather grey bag (no current/recent style is 100% perfect for me).

I will share some pics when they come in :) I played with a black cooper at the outlet a while back and really liked it. It has suede lining! I think the heather grey is such a great color. It looks like a more stylish version of my beloved Charlie carryall.

Most of the newer styles aren’t for me either. I do like a few of the smaller new bags but even those meh haha I’m drawn to the Harmony hobo but even on sale they still seem so pricey!

I didn't buy any more bags, but I went on Coach.com this morning after reading the forum and bought a card case and keychain. Yikes! My keychain downsizing isn't working out too well. Before last week, I hadn't bought anything purse related since July.

The Cooper is a great bag! It is so classy and fits a lot. Plus that suede interior is yummy. I am surprised you are looking at it considering that is is a large satchel and you have said in the past that satchels don't work for you?

You are right — it will be like a new bag, lol. My Mom has only been using her small nylon bags the last 2 years so she doesn’t really use her other bags (let alone the ones I gave her). I wouldn’t mind if she returns my other duffle since it is the grey pebbled one.

Good job not buying any bags for almost 6 months. Looking forward to seeing your new goodies. Your keychain collection must be phenomenal :)

Thanks C :). I love the look of the heather grey Cooper but shouldn’t buy it due to its size (also not sure how easy it is to use the strap to shoulder carry). I like the closure detail (those two little leather tassel strap ring thingy). Oh, think I saw it comes in a gorgeous pink too. I forget — do you have one?
