Invisalign vs. regular braces?

Purplepoodles,

Lots of orthodontists now, at least in So. California, have a digital scanner called iTero. It takes a digital 3D scan of your teeth, and they send it to Invisalign, so you get your trays faster and no putty mess or allergy issues. HTH

Thanks TedByrd! Will be at the dentist on this week. Allergist approved and moving forward. So excited after all this time

Does anyone have advice for which would be a better choice? Also, are there ways to be on a payment plan when getting invisalign or do you have to pay everything up front?

Are there any ways to get the price knocked down a bit? Thanks.

My parents paid for my braces when I was in grade 12 so I can't give advice on the payment plan because I'm not sure how mine did it. But I do know that if your braces/invisalign is for cosmetic reasons (you don't need them for any reason other than improving the appearance) then they won't be covered by medical. That's how it was with mine anyway.

I had braces for only 6 months and I think it was well worth it. It was easy for them to adjust my braces for me, they even had to move one of the brackets before so it was good that they could actually do that without having to make a brand new invisalign tray for me.

I'd go with braces just because they seem to have more control and I would assume that they would work faster than invisalign. Braces aren't that bad.

I'm very happy with invisaligns. They are amazing and without much pain.

Did you have to get your wisdom teeth removed? I had braces previously and my teeth on the top have started to fan out a little bit for various reasons. My wisdom teeth grow horizontally so I would have to go under general anesthesia which I don't want to do again. That's the only thing making me hesitant about getting invisalign.

These are my teeth w my aligners off and I had two sets of trays to go after this picture was taken. You can see the little button things they put on some of the teeth if you look closely.

I only had to wear the aligners for 7.5-8 (got them mid April and they were off the end of November I think) months because my teeth weren't crooked or spaced weird, but I could tell they were shifting after having my wisdom teeth removed.

Anyway, they were totally worth it and soooo easy!! Does take a few days to a week to get used to having the trays in your mouth and your mouth will be really super dry at first so carry water w you.

I think Invisalign is a better Substitute to the braces, it effectively treats a wide variety of cases including crossbite, overbite, underbite, spacing and crowding. There are several more statistics which shows that Invisalign is much better than the Braces. For expert opinion you can refer Invisalign Rockville MD.

I've been looking into braces as well, and have been told my teeth need more than Invisalign. Desperate to find another option other than having the traditional metal braces, I googled and found Lingual braces. They are called "Incognito", and work by being put on the back of the teeth instead. Completely cosmetic, and somewhat more effective than traditional braces.

I really want to get these, mainly because I have overcrowding on the bottom.

i've been looking into these as well. I haven't had experience with either, but I've heard too many stories from people I know that had issues with Invisalign so idk if it's worth the added expense. I did see reviews on RealSelf that said that the incognitos are painful. Please follow up if you end up getting them :)

You must consult your orthodontist before deciding whether to go with invisalign or traditional braces. Treatment required varies depending on the condition of each person. It is best to let the orthodontist decide which treatment to follow. Invisalign treatment is pricier but it is invisible to another person. So if you are tensed about appearance, invisalign treatment will be a good option. For me traditional braces gave good results. But there will be metal braces visible in front of the teeth during the treatment.

I may be the only one hear that wore the traditional clear braces. My only issue with my teeth was spacing or rather a small gap between my two front teeth that bothered me for years so I took the plunge. Best $3000 I've ever spent. My dental insurance paid for 50% orthodontics though so I actually was only out of pocket $1500. Each orthodontist will be different depending on the area in which you live. My upfront cost was for the bitewings and x-rays which was about $270 and the rest was spread out over the amount of time that I wore the braces in monthly installments. I think I paid about $100 a month and actually finished my payments fast because I would double up most of the time. For me, traditional was the way to go because I didn't want something I could remove and have to always tend me. It was easy for me because I would just brush really well, use mouthwash and peroxide to guard against infections and gingivitis and that was it. Also, it stopped me from eating certain things (chips, popcorn, hard candy, etc) which helped me lose weight (that's never a bad thing!!). I guess what works for one may not for another depending on lifestyle but it's all up to the individual and the dental case.

The funny thing here though is that my top teeth retainer is invisalign and the bottom is the traditional metal retainer. I wear my retainer every night (well mostly every night :p

ok, so I am wearing the full train track braces (lol) and I am 30 years old. I was practicing not smiling with my teeth but I didn't keep up but I have received very positive responses!

Like most of the people that I chat with told me that they had braces and gave me their stories. I have been really encouraged and actually kind of happy I did it. I am actually surprised at the amount of people who use to wear braces!

I have been wearing alot of silver jewelry to coordinate with my braces, so I look full accessorized. lol

I was the same age you are when I had mine so no worries. I am so glad I did it and I absolutely love my smile. Once I had them removed, I got them whitened and I have no regrets about any of it! Traditional was just the way to go for me. Flash that shiny smile girl!! :D

Well I finally have Invisaline trays in
my mouth and I'm loving them! Thanks ladies for all your advice and encouragement. My headache lessened immediately and strange as it may sound I have been able to stop constantly using eye drops, a complete and unexpected bonus, couldn't be happier!

No problems except the learning curve of removal but working on that. I'm using a softish nylon hair pic to loosen the one really tight area over the last molar as my thumb just won't bend at the right angle. My technician approves.

One of the dots as came off the second night when I removed the tray, it's is on a crown and I had already been warned dots are not normally applied to ceramic but apparently it's ok to loose a dot. The technicians can do a workaround.

Thanks again for all the advice ladies!
