Influencers and Hermes

I’m finding it harder and harder to take this brand seriously based on these so called influencers who have been getting bag offers in the last couple years or buying them elsewhere. Just scrolling through sm feeds I see the following persons with birkins or kellys - someone who looks like she’s a call girl getting a highly desirable picnic, a woman who admits to being on only fans (you may have seen her with her pasty), multiple resellers who flex their bags (faubourg, Himalayan, etc) and pretend to live the high life with photo shoots in cliche locations, the wife of a slumlord, and so many others who have shopping addictions and can’t stop shopping the brand. The clientele has changed a lot since the pandemic. And not in a good way. Brand protection seems nonexistent. Image doesn’t seem to matter. Is H really exclusive anymore? The shopping experience has declined with so much competition and all the stupid games. Brands like Patek and Rolex care about resellers. Patek even interviews you to determine whether you’re actually worthy of wearing their watch. With Hermes it is a free for all. Play the game by spending enough, resell the prespend along the way, and you still get a bag. Even my nail lady is buying Hermes bags and flexing on IG. She has a stack of cartier bangles and vca too. Go figure.

I wish I could say that I disagree with something, anything here - but honestly? I can't. Everything that you have written is 100% spot on from my perspective. I can't say that Patek has specifically interviews my husband nor myself for the pieces we have, but I could totally see that and support it.

I'm just old enough that I missed the influencer craze - I do not follow a single one and have no real social media to speak of. That said, I'm familiar with the slumlord's wife as she followed an older IG account I had with a large following, since deleted. Just being totally candid here... I absolutely cannot stand her, her attitude, and the fact that she is so smug about there being actual information about what her husband has done to people, and animals, heartbreakingly, and continues to parade purchases et al for all to see. It sounds as if other influencers are annoying as well, but she just is intolerable IMO.

Most spot-on and cadid perspectives posted to this thread yet.

And if you didn’t already know that @jenayb stands out from a crowd (e.g. deleting her Instagram account w/ a large following) ... now you know, haha! :coolio:

I don't think Hermes fully wants to shut down the resellers, especially of the NIB bags with plastic, etc.
If they did, all they have to do is have the SA see who they offer bags to, and track if the customer ever wears the bag when they come into the store. And prod/encourage them to do so. If they still don't, they just want to keep it in pristine condition and therefore are looking to buy to resell. Doesn't seem that difficult to do! Yes, some people resell for a different color, etc but if it becomes a pattern then imo it seems they aren't in it for the appreciation of the brand.

Also did anyone see the newest TFBS updates??? It's crazy, won't post here bc it might be OT but take a look.
Anyways it supports the alleged claims LM buys fakes - in case anyone had any doubts!
It's very interesting, however TFBS also highlighted (in their list, haven't seen an interview yet) a "real collector" who definitely has posted fake bags.
There's just too much fakery. Fake bags, buying and returning, fake follower numbers....it would be exhausting to even try to care ;)

That’s a really interesting question… when I was in the store a couple weeks ago, my SA asked me if I follow someone on TikTok, and I’m not on sm (except this forum) so I told him I don’t know that person. He was like oh you should follow her and we watch her stuff to see what’s new! And he was really excited that she was just at the store and did a “thing”, like she was a celebrity. (Which I guess if you are into influencers, meeting someone you follow would be akin to meeting a celebrity.) So I could definitely see it happening at the store SM/SA level.
The SA was referencing the instagram account Hermes Bonbon. It’s an account that post new items that become available on Hermes’ website. They don’t sell anything or post themselves it’s just an informative account to show what’s new or if there were bag drops. I think SAs get a lot of business from it. People will see something they like then reach out to their SAs about it.

Am I the only one who is triggered by how some of these influencer/youtuber pronounce some words? I get that some Hermès colors can be hard to pronounce, but in my opinion, you should at least be able to say Hermès, sellier and retourné correctly. I am tired fo hearing Hermeez and selli-ER.
You know what’s worse? When the SA pronounces it wrong. *facepalm*

Ah! I had never heard of this person/account... :oh:

Exactly. My brother is an SA at Madison and follows Hermes Bonbon. He gets quite a few clients coming in with screenshots from their account. Lots of Hermès employees and designers for the house also follow. Non-flex and informative, worth a follow.

I don't listen to any of these people, but that would kill me.

Yes, I always wonder about her story and background. I asked it upthread but no one seems to know besides the obvious (Jewellery SA, etc).

Is she another Michel Coste disguised as an SA or is she a normal SA? If the latter, it’s interesting that Hermes sanctions her IG activities.
She is a normal SA and H does not approve of SAs having H-centric IG accts. If anyone follows her regularly her H content is a fraction of what it once was and she usually will not be the first to post a picture with clients, she will reshare. H has strict rules regarding sm accts for their employees, MC is obviously the exception.
