Influencers and Hermes

Exactly, and it doesn’t help that their “everyday jewelry collection” in general is 80% the same - Cartier love bangle, JUC, a VCA alhambra piece, a H finesse/kelly/CDC piece, Chanel coco crush ring, tennis bracelet, and Rolex or Cartier watch. Yawn.

Don’t get me wrong, each of those pieces are iconic “everyday” pieces for a good reason. But the influencer content these days is sooo repetitive that I never get inspired or introduced to a new item. It’s boring! Now throw in a highly obvious sponsorship that was clearly the main reason for making the video, and my eyes are rolling so hard that I can practically see my brain. They also gush about the same 2-3 points that are so clearly fed to them verbatim by the brand.

Sorry for the rant but I’ve seen like 5 of these videos in the past month (all from influencers with big H content) and got exasperated.
And these sponsored pieces look so small and uninteresting

I feel like almost every luxury youtuber and a lot of social media influencers on yt, tiktok, insta etc. is unboxing an Hermes bag that they "got offered" from the store (whether this is actually true or not). This is probably a super unpopular opinion but I'm beginning to see Hermes as an "influencer" brand and I can't help but be put off by it. I still love the brand but I feel like it's so oversaturated in the luxury space. I wish influencers would talk more about other brands too and not just the same Hermes unboxings. It's probably why "quiet luxury" is trending and why many other less well known Hermes bags are seen as this (Mel in Melbourne recently unboxed a "quiet luxury" Hermes bag on YT). Anyway, that's the end of my rant :yucky:

Is it me or does this feel targeted? Is there a specific influencer?
Admittedly I'm not as keen on accessing backgrounds and what are on people's shelves -my own fault.
Yes of course, but I don't remember the names of their channels. YT recommendations based on my browsing some time ago. That was the moment when I was paying some attention and was wondering if everything shown is real. Hence why I was asking here because on this forum are a lot of knowledgeable H-customers.

But as I said, I'm also well aware that I probably fall victim so some prejudices. As said, people can do with their money whatever they want and thinking that people can't have 10K handbags due to their environment is kind of close minded. Sorry for that. Now please continue. I'm probably taking a step away from H-influencers for the time being.

Thanks, just curious. I'm not as keen on somethings, I should be more cynical lol!

It takes a lot of maturity and introspection to write this. You seem like a really nice person  Thank you for the lovely attitude

I have a question: are many of the quota bags shown on social media fake? Of course, people can do with their money whatever they want and I also got myself smth from H recently and don't live in a mansion, but it seems so out of place when people sit in smth that that looks like their child's room at their parents or in a room that is full with clutter and without any direction of style and yet unbox one H item (including quota bags for 10K+) after another as if it's their weekly Target purchase. I know that I'm probably falling into the prejudices trap here but smth feels so off whenever I see people with a 50K handbag collection living in places that clearly indicate that buying high luxury as frequently as it's suggested on social media is kinda out of their league. So either they buy on credit and ignore the issue or they buy fakes in order to be able to present a new quota bag every two months (let's ignore the rules of the game to even get which already makes the frequency unrealistic).

Not sure if this is going into OT territory but thought it was interesting to this conversation we’re having about luxury YouTubers. Please remove mods if it’s going too OT.

So well said.H has become an influencer brand and not much different from lv or Dior in that sense. All these influencers running around posing with their Kellys or Birkins in cliche poses and places. I just saw a video with one influencer in Canada who has a click bait title of massive Hermes unboxing! And of course she sandwiches in a promo for some jewelry brand. 10% off if you use her code. I’m now really compelled to go buy some of that rando jewelry.

Oh I know. The whole video is cringe…..I get it you like chypre but snoooore. If these hauls are not sponsored by lily silk then It’s idyl.

I did like the cardigan though. I never see stuff like that in store or online.

I get it, people need to make a living and I sound ungrateful bc I do enjoy seeing new items. Videos and influencers like these make me really question if I should continue to buy the brand.

I've said it once and I'll say it again -
Sponsors cheapen the luxury touch of these luxury youtubers, no matter how "luxe" they try to make the sponsors seem.
UNLESS the sponsor is a luxury brand itself, in which case the point is moot.
But yeah, no brand of that caliber is going to do that - only non-luxury brands. Alas.
True, but honestly can anyone actually look at ANY of these influencers and see anything that is truly “luxe”? IMO the only option is just to ignore them and not allow your perceptions of the brand to be shaped by them.

Totally agree, and a lot of influencers have been busted as they are posting super fakes. I don't follow any one person, but there was a guy that was a big influencer (IG and TikTock) and Fashionphile was sponsoring him. That really doesn't say much as even they have sold fakes. Anyway, he was caught selling fake bags (Hermés) under an assumed name. Someone called it out and he was busted, lost his sponsorship with Fashionphile and I have no idea what he is doing now.

I think that they are not Hermés influencers, but vloggers that show fashion brands and do unboxing. I have a friend that works at Bergdorf's and she's a manager in handbags, she says there are girls that come in buy a designer bag and a few days later return them. She thinks that they are "influencers" that are unboxing and then returning the bag. Manly Chanel, Goyard, YSL, etc. I am not saying that at Hermés, but I think that a lot of them are buying super fakes. As they NEVER come in close so you can see the stitching or the stamp and the telltale is when they release the Birkin and Kelly sangles. They should fall from the weight of the hardware. (hence the Birlkin Shadow) Some don't even do that and they just unlock the bag and immediately put the straps back into the pontet. I mean some of them are amazing with their stories and I am like meh!
