Influencers and Hermes

What’s crazy is that while scrolling through my feed on Instagram it seemed like 1/20 videos was someone talking about this subject… it felt anything but organic. 😵

It almost feels like a targeted attack 💀

What’s funny is that smuggling scenario did occur but it was in France and the artisans for caught. 🤣
I had the same experience today. What really annoyed me was the video I saw claiming that a togo Birkin cost $38000 from H, when you could have the same togo B, with the same lambskin lining for $1000. A. They're not $38000 and B. the lining isn't lambskin.
Jumped to the comments and anyone who had pointed out the differences were being flamed by a whole bunch of people who were congratulating themselves on buying a fake and inferior product.
There was also a whole bunch of people citing political reasons for this sudden rash of Chinese replica videos.

I wish they'd realise that's $1000 down the drain.

Annoying trend of Influencers and other social media users ridiculing people who buy Hermes and other designer bags, citing Chinese TikTokers claiming some finished products, or materials used in finished products, come from China.

I have been seeing these videos pop up incessantly and the creators just take the videos at face value and ridicule people for shopping at Hermes. Has no one heard of “never believe everything on the internet”!!!! It’s unbelievable!

It really does feel premeditated. How all of a sudden within a week did instagram go from “how amazing is Hermes and their quality” to “it’s all mass produced in China, look at these desperate fools who shop there

I don't think the SA's attitude is warranted no matter the pre-spend, more importantly after a 9 year relationship. She mentioned the garden party as never being allotted to her, which is weird since I have been offered garden parties at several stores without any local pre-spend. (I sadly don't have an SA because I keep moving stores). That's just sad, I was under the impression that, at H, relationships are more important than spend because we all spend.
I agree with you. It was not warranted to talk down to her like that from such a simple question. She didn't sound demanding at all. From what she has shown over the past two years she had the prespend for the B25, actually way over the prespend including her husbands watch. Then another 9k in February. I think it is really pitiful she couldn't even get a garden party. I don't think she was asking for a K25 when her husband went to Las Vegas but just asking in general about getting one. It is sad, she seems nice.

Clickbait really took off to spread misinformation for views with TikTok and short form videos.

Like all it takes is a quick google search to see that your generic Birkin doesn’t cost $38k (even on the absurd end of the resale market).
I saw a video today breaking down they use togo leather, to the kind of thread etc. Then he got to the interior of the Birkin and said it was lambskin. Nope it's chèvre. He also used a high number like 35k to buy in the USA. Such misinformation for sure.

now this is the type of commentary i am interested in hahaha

eta I don't know if I fully agree with Jess here but I do see where she is coming from and appreciate the perspective. Maybe I am a jerk but I don't think reaching a breaking point justifies being mean to clients. I have never talked down to colleagues just because I am stressed. I don't think it is too much to require SAs to maintain their kindness and professionalism even if they are drained.

I agree this is annoying. I've purchased luxury goods for quite some time, now everyone is gonna assume I done got a hookup from China the next time I purchase a handbag *rolls eyes*. Now all of a sudden I have a hundred Chinese vendors on my Tik Tok timeline selling handbags and shoes.

misinformation and drama tend to go viral and not these kinds of stories.

I've seen this video before, but I love it!

It's not all strictly true, we all know there are bags out the back, they're just not available (generally) as a walk in customer. But I get that, they're made properly, they're not mass produced and there's a limit to how many they make so therefore not every customer that walks in the door can just buy one.
That's fine by me incidentally, I don't have the patience (or the funds!) to become a regular customer on a waitlist so buy preowned (for the Birkins / Kellys I have owned anyway).

Videos like this make me feel very privileged though to own a little piece of that history. Even the very best replica in the same materials could never replicate that!
