First word for your bag: NICE!

I've never really described the Bbag leathers in words other than "I like it" or "I'm not so fond of it", but I'll give it a shot. Bbag veterans - please correct me as required?

So here goes... Other describing words, I am guessing, may include the following:
Saturated, deep black
Crackled/highly distressed/crackled, glazed effect
Veiny towards the top right hand corner
Gorgeous

Thank you so much.I keep coming back here to check if one of Bal experts has something to say and you SkyBlueDay took time.:yahoo:
I had exchanged the first bag i got because i found a black stain on one of the hardware, i dunno if it's tarnish, i love the leather on the first one, smoother, less veins and shinier that this one. So as a newbie i thought all Bal bags should be like that. With this second bag, I didn't get to choose.so i thought i wasn't so lucky and got a bag with a bad kind of leather..I'm understanding more and more about BAL now. it's different from one another, each has its own character.. thank you! after your good comments i'm falling more in love with this black beauty. ;):D

You are welcome!

Could be all the time differences for different people around the world who are TPF members, that makes us feel no one has read or responded to our questions for half a day.

Enjoy your bag!

The Bal leather has got me totally confused too! I have an 06 grenat day that is probably 'thick and chewy'!!?? and now i have an 06 ink twiggy which is so completely different - 'thin and silky'!!?? Both are chevre and from the same year so who knows what I will get next! Both are delightful in their own way...yet entirely 'individual'!

btw - your bag is TDF!!

aww.. thank you :D i'm now more confident to show her off:yahoo:

This is a very interesting topic, I'm also confused on all these descriptions. They all sound good, but I don't know what really some adjectives like "chewy" or "smooshy", etc, really applies to. Whatever...:shrugs:
When I look for a Bbag, pictures says it all to me esp if the leather looks well "distressed" or "wrinkly", that is a big plus to me.

^ smooshy means that the leather is soft to the point that the leather is drapey and "smooshes" into itself.
"smooshy" is more of a term to describe the softness and flexibility of the leather rather than whether it's thick or thin.

Hope that helps!

I'm hoping to get my first Balenciaga tomorrow. I'm getting a black city RH. The one that was put away for me looks like KellyLV's bag post #134. In picture #3, the leather shows a lot of crackled part almost to the point that I think the leather would break, will that be a cause of problem in the future? Will that cause it to peel? I am just worried that it will. I know nothing about Balenciaga yet. I just started reading the Balenciaga threads too. I will be picking the bag up tomorrow (PSN Holt Renfrew). They showed me 3 black city and my husband likes the one that's distressed and crackled and is the shiniest amongst the 3.The other 2 is less distressed but more matte than shiny. I like it too but I'm afraid of the the crackles being the cause of a future problem.

Thank you, little rock! In that case, I adore smooshy in all its incarnations!

heckp, from the little I know about my own Bbags, lots of crackling and super-shiny does not seem to increase the "peel-off" factor that you are concerned about.

I have two Bbags that are really cracked-looking and very shiny from previous years (Officier and EB), and neither leather has ever peeled-off. Both leathers are very, very soft - almost feel like finer versions of the chevre/goatskin.

I've had the Sang and Outremer from this season, both of which are highly distressed, and the leathers are slightly drier and stiffer than the previous bags mentioned: neither, with considerably heavy use, have had any peeling either. They have both retained their shine as well, despite having been in heavy rain without any protector. Their only change is that they have become incredibly soft and supple - I think that would be "smooshy"!

The other TPFers will, I imagine, have more advice and experience to give you, though... so see what they have to say as well.

And, I wouldn't be shy about going in to really feel and gently squeeze the leather between your hands, so you can see what the leather does. These are expensive bags, so a little gentle squeezing - plus asking to see how the bag feels when you put your own things in it, should be allowed, as most designer places allow you to do that.

Resurrecting this thread! Each one of my bbags really is different. A few examples below. I have learned I love thick leather, more distressed (but not white veins) the better, but the #1 feature I love is the gloss. Unfortunately, with use the gloss will diminish and several of mine are oldies and that has happened.

07 GSH Plomb Brief: Soft and Pillowy with thick leather (puffy and varying large distressing - not tight lines). Has lost the gloss on the front of the bag, but remains on the back.
07 GSH Ocean Work: The most amazing Pillowy and glossy leather. Similar to Plomb.
2004 Lilac Weekender - My only smooth, matte leather but super soft. Wish it had at least some distressing, but I still love it. I've seen other 04 Lilac's that are super distressed, so who knows. Mine has lost the original gloss.
2005 Grey Work: Very silky, soft leather with tight distressing, but not heavy. Some areas are smooth. Very smooshy.
