I've been all over the place in my Coach buying in the past.
Buying from FP only, then outlet only (searching for certain bags.)
But now I've settled into buying FP when I really want a particular bag/color to make sure I get the exact bag I want, when I want it, and never worrying about the bag going on sale in future. But then also visiting outlets, more to see what I treasures I can find there, and I've found great bags there I didn't even know I needed LOL. I think it all evens out in the end, and I get great bags that I really love.

I have been a Coach customer for twenty years and I think their management is simply clueless on how to properly manage customer purchasing data and loyalty programs. Some loyal customers get cut out while others who never shop there receive all kinds of PCEs and discounts. I have received most PCEs and let them pass by unless there is something I truly want. It's hard not to take it personally, but the reality is that they are just poorly managing their most valuable asset--the loyal customer.

If 70 percent of their revenue comes from outlets, I have no idea how they plan to elevate this brand into a top tier name without drastically changing their outlet strategy. Just don't see it happening. I think they should look at what Mulberry has muddled through for the last couple of years and heed the warning. I'm not saying it's not possible--I'm just saying that this company doesn't know enough about its customers and position to even know what the brand represents--and I say this as a long time Coach supporter. I want them to succeed.

I live close to an outlet so I am fortunate to be able to easily check for new deletes and such. I don't pay full price unless it is something I can't live without and that hasn't happened in several years. I feel bad for those who pay FP and then see the bag at the outlet for half off. It's frustrating and no one wants to feel like they've wasted hard-earned money. Whatever Coach does, I just wish they'd be consistent.
I agree with you, I am a long time Coach customer and never once received a PCE. If they make the revenue from the outlets, then why are bags priced at $1000 in the retail stores?

+1

Love Red, probably. Pretty bag! It was a new bag this year. Keep in mind that people here on TPF sometimes order bags from JAX the instant they're available for sale, which may be months before they're actually displayed in stores. So, it may well have been a new bag from that season when you bought it. When the seasons change, the bags typically disappear from the FP stores with the change in floorset.

That makes me feel a LOT better. Thank you!

I think someone here called it double dipping. No one knows why or what they are doing, but them. Maybe in their minds they are charging us a premium for the level of service in the boutiques, the aesthetics of these boutiques and the opportunity to order a bag before and when it is first introduced. On the other hand, bags are discounted when it hits the outlets because all of this changes. You aren't guaranteed to find certain deletes at your outlet, but for most not all, a simple charge send or a family member pick up logistically solves the problem of not having it at your outlet. FP handles the work involved with acquiring a bag. Outlets transfer this work to the consumer.

Also, Jess, that is an interesting concept. However, trends change from season to season. No company wants to sit on inventory for too long especially in retail. Again, they make to many of any one thing and they are stuck with inventory. If they drastically reduce the amount of bags produced, this may work. Do this and keep higher price to increase gross margin or continue to drive volume. It is a catch 22 for them.

For those who have not shopped ebay recently I cannot believe the bargains. I saw a laser cut Sophia in Navy sell for less than $100. Of course if I were bidding on it there would have been a war and I would "win" at $400 and only for someone sell it a week later BIN for $150 but I digress....

I am thinking as CFC09 says "all bags will go to the outlet". I think even the new SV fall bags will too, but they will just take longer. They will try to get rid of inventory at the Semi Annual sale and then the leftovers will go to outlet stores. If they do that it will solve a common concern people have of buying bags that 2 months later are in the outlet if they take more than 6 months to get there. But I am not happy with the price point increases and lack of PCE. I could swallow the higher price points if they continued PCE

UGH don't even get me started on the Ebay prices right now! I'd like to sell a couple of my Sophias, but comparable ones are selling for less than $125, even though they're in excellent condition.

"Outlets transfer the work to the customer."

No kidding! Last weekend I just spent ten minutes explaining to an Asian women that the woven Preston was indeed leather, as the SA shrugged her shoulders and said IDK. I was thinking I should get a discount for my lengthy explanation about leather processing!!

I just hired someone who use to be a top selling SA at a FP store and was treated like crap and offered double the salary to work at MK. She literally can't stand Coach as a result of the way she was treated. This explains a lot!!

Coach didn't/doesn't care about only customer loyalty, but apparently couldn't give a fig about many of their employees either.

LMBO @ discount for the lengthy explanation about leather processing. This brings up another valid point.. the level of training and knowledge of products as a whole.

Sad to hear your SA was mistreated at the previous company. Show her that employees are valued.

I'm pretty much done with Coach too. Ever since they started doing factory sales online, their bags haven't been able to hold their value at all. I guess that was their way of making it through the recession. I've also had some quality issues with them lately. A strap broke off a brand new bag carried for just two weeks, the uppers of some heeled sandals came completely off the second time I wore them, and a pair of sneakers I bought six months ago are already falling apart. I expect more from shoes that are supposedly worth over $100. I still have some of their older bags that are holding up well though. Those seem to be better quality.

Im glad Im not the only one who is thinking this too, it is extremely annoying that they tell you one thing and do another. Also I have had some problems with their shoes recently and am very unsatisfied.

The value of my bag is in how much I love it, not how much I paid or someone else paid for it or even how much I can resell it for. How much I love the brand or the bag doesn't change because of what's on the price tag. Plus, I use my bags for a long time before I switch to a new one so even at full price, I get my money's worth.

About the pce stuff, it's frustrating, but it's totally dependent on the sa's. I used to buy more and never got pce's and stuff. And then I bought a bag recently, my first in like two years, and the SA must have put me on every list cause now I get all the notices and cards. She even sent me a $50 gift card as a thank you for buying a $300 bag, it's crazy confusing!

I think I want to shop with your SA!
