I'm afraid I'm blackballed, & very sad! :-(

Just a quick note -- Hermes is NOT a private company that can do what it wants. It's publicly traded worldwide and has to answer to its directors and shareholders, not to mention numerous regulators. I don't think you could make an argument about Birkin distribution that would get the shareholders, directors or regulators riled up but I thought it was worth mentioning.

On hold is Gold Togo 35/ Palladium HW! Is this very difficult to get? I have the money now, but I want to be sure this is the one. At first I preferred gold HW, but the pic of this is so pretty. Am I very lucky to be offered this without buying a ton of other stuff? Please give me your opinions before I let this one go, and never get offered another. Thank you from a nervous Hermes newbie.

I am a nervous wreck right now! Could not sleep last night. This decision is so hard! I've been offered 2 Birkins so fast - almost too fast for me to "try" any out. I'm really stressing over this "large" purchase. Is this normal? Maybe I need more time. I thought I would begin my search less than a month ago, but my head is spinning with doubt on purchasing so fast! Without even trying one on.

You need to be psychologically ready to take the plunge. Do not buy then have buyer's remorse, it is frowned on and a huge pity on what should be a happy and special occasion. I would just take my time to do research and feel comfortable and knowledgeable with the specs, like leather, colour and size before buying a birkin. Or maybe, it is just not the right bag for you, or not the right 1st H bag.

From my experience, hesitation is not a good thing, it means your gut instinct is trying to tell you something. I would just stop before a huge mistake is made. If you love the bag you should be feeling happy and excited, not stressed.

FYI, you could return a birkin, but you will only get store credit back. And the store credit expires in one year. Not to mention your cred with this store would go down the drain too. So do make sure you are happy with your purchase and avoid going down this road.

Gold is lovely, but it's not on your initial list of colors. That being said, I find that sometimes I'll decide in my head that I love certain colors, but all that goes out the window when I see a bag in another color that is love at first sight. If you like what you see in the picture, and you think it will go with most of your wardrobe, then I'd say it's a good choice all around!

That is my dream bag, so I would take it in a heartbeat! Of course, you have to be sure that it's right for you and your lifestyle.

I totally agree, I need to decide before the bag is shipped to me. I really thought that I would have lots of time before being offered a bag. I know that is a good thing, but only if a person is ready. I thought I was, but now I'm not sure. I dreamed of bags all night long, after finally going to sleep around 2:30. Oprah was even buying bags with me. LOL.

I think the gold is a beautiful bag. It's just hard to take the plunge. I've never spent this much, and I have some hesitation. I think the SA is very nice, and I would hate to tell her that I decided against the bag. However, I feel that she would not be like the other woman. If I could see the bag in person, I would feel better. However, it is in another state. I'm still torn about what to do. I really want to try both the Birkin & Kelly on before I buy. I know that is sometimes impossible though because they are so rare. It is a very tough decision......

It's normal to feel that way. I also did. i have the money but am not sure if i should spend that much on "just a bag". but in the end i bought it anyways and am quite happy that it's MINE!!! If you buy it you will definitely love it.

My first birkin was a chocolate. definitely not on my list but since it's the only one there at the time i took it. because heck, when will i get another chance, right?

after buying it it was in its box because i want to/almost exchanged it for a black ghw. but in the end the chocolate suited me better. now i love it!!!

good luck!

If you are worried about the size, make a mock-up of it using cardboard. It doesn't give you the same feeling of the weight and leather and handling, but you can have a pretty good idea of the proportions.

Congrats on being offered two birkins! Do a search in the Hermes in Action thread for gold birkins and you'll get a good idea of how it looks when worn. I think gold is a great color for starters. It goes with any color. Hope you decide to get it.

RC: That SA is out of her mind to be this direct and I think she is oblivious to the current worldwide birkin availability. Getting birkins have never been this easy before, if one's not too picky of size/color/leather, then it's fairly easy to obtain one in France or Japan....or even in the States. Even exotics birkins are not that hard to find, especially in Japan. Friend of mine even spotted Violet croc and the mysterious Vert Fonce croc sitting on the shelves in Japan recently. And if the direction is given from the top management, then I think they should tell H headquarters to cut down on birkin production and stop FSH from taken orders from tourists and first time customers. How can they expect us to play this game when they make birkins easily available to walk ins in France? My own friend went to Bordeaux and came back with six birkins - four of them exotics. Whatever happened to the controled birkin limit per tourist policy? She is wealthy but was never an Hermes fan, she just wanted birkins only. They really can't use birkin offers as leverage anymore. I think it should be the other way around now, they should happily offer or search for a good customer's requested bag so that the customer will be happy and STAY with the boutique. They should be the ones in fear that we customers go to another boutique or simply order from FSH. It's actually alot cheaper to buy all the accessories from FSH and fly to Japan to buy birkins than play their game and end up buying bunch of cute stuff and still waiting for a birkin - IF they even tried to get you one. But then again, you must be a good customer or appear to them to be a potential high spender.

KathyD - if you are hesitant and it is not on your current wishlist, then don't get it. However, if it makes your heart sing then do get it. It is a lot of money to spend on something that you "think" you might like. Personally I think that gold looks better with GHW than PHW but that's just my opinion.

I really think you should try and get to the store and try the gold on. You may even love it. For aaaages I was sure that etoupe was the one for me from seeing it in pics on here, but then when I tried one on in store, it was not. I also tried a black one that day, and I haven't been able to get the black out of my head ever since. So I now want a black Birkin which never had entered my head before. So I really do think that you need to try it on first ....

KathyD- normally I would say buy it and enjoy it even though the bag is not exactly your dream bag. But at current pricing and the state of the economy, I agree with others who say you should buy exactly the bag you have your heart set on. Even if you have to wait, it will be worth it. Will the SA you are working with take a SO? I can tell you that it used to be unheard of to hold a birkin for any length of time and that includes 30 minutes just to run home for the cc!

I am sure you will make the right decision.

Congrats on your potential purchases! Be warned- once you make this large purchase it will be very hard to justify purchasing LV...to think "that 3k could be used towards Hermes!"

I'm close to making a decision about which one, not whether or not to get one. So I feel much better now! My problem is that I love both the Birkin and Kelly. I'll be looking at pics for the rest of the night. Thank goodness for informative threads and pics.

:tup:I probably won't be buying anymore LV because I have enough.
