2.5 hrs is a LONG way to drive or fly just to see a bag, especially when the color was only one of three that Kathy had shown interest in. I might be sympathetic towards the SA if she had placed a special order for an orange Birkin or had it transferred over specially...but it doesn't sound like that's what happened.

I'm sorry to hear that the store manager is taking that attitude. It's certainly their right to operate however they like, but it just seems a bit petty to make you feel "punished" for turning down a bag...that somebody else ordered!! I hate to think what they said to that customer when she turned down the Birkin

EH, my SA must think that I spend every waking moment perusing Hermes.com ;) Everything I ask for, I say that I saw on "the website" :D

OB- I was thinking the same thing!

I know, the website is amazing, has everything !!!! But of course we prefer to buy from our stores!!! ;)

LOL they probably gave that client 20 lashes and a boot in the bum. Unless it was a store SO. I don't know how that works, if it passes to another SA who gets a chance then. Regardless, SA was snitty + and that is unacceptable.

Ladies you rock!:urock: I feel much better after reading your comments and pm's! I'll just visit another store soon, and proceed from there. Now I'm off to watch my daughter's college dance team perform (see signature below). Time to move on, and I will. I really enjoy browsing all the fabulous pics of your Birkins and Kellys - very informative and wonderful eye candy. Thanks again! :flowers:

So, let me see. You walk into an H boutique and say, maybe you would like a Birkin in one of three colors -- at some point in time. And, the next day, her client who special ordered an orange birkin turned it down, so she thought she could palm it off on you, a potential and unsuspecting new client. And you said no, thank you. That was all you had to do. You did not have to explain yourself. You did not have to drive 2 1/2 hours out of your way to see someone else's reject. You didn nothing wrong.

I got off to a really bad start with an SA who pretty much seemed to hate and ignore me. I bought several things from her at the beginning. Then, one day I walked into the boutique and just asked to see some Kelleys. She (the baddish SA) was off and I dealt with the sweetest young lady, who really screwed me up, but she was adorable and we had a short and sweet relationship. She was gone before my next purchase. Back to France. Do not let a pissed off SA make you feel miserable. Plopping down 10 grand on a pocketbook should not be a spur of the moment decision. It should be an enjoyable process with the SA being part of the joy that you experience.
And, a charge/send, it is nearly impossible, from my experience. Wow you sure picked a bad one. Sorry about that.

The woman also told me not to bother to come in the shop next week to look at leathers because there was no need since all Birkins were spoken for and I had specifically wanted orange and then turned it down. The manager stood by everything the SA said, and told me that their store couldn't operate by only just selling birkins or kellys and if I wanted to come in and start a relationship with another SA by buying other Hermes items, that would be how to get a bag. I already knew that, but she said it in a way that offended me.
I don't want to start an argument here, so next time I will visit other stores as I travel and see what happens.

Wow what nerve the SA had! I don't usually like to be rude but in this situation I think the SA should know her place. If it was me I'd probably write a complain letter to the HQ - that's not how you treat people in retail, let alone a high end boutique like Hermes. I am also very surprised that the manager was backing the SA, that's crazy. If I were you, I'd never ever go to that store again because I won't give a single cent sale to that kind of shop. If I had to travel to get my Birkin fix, I'd do that as long as I get good service.

I agree. I have never understood the snooty attitudes of SAs in any luxury brand boutique. Their job is to sell the merchandise. Why treat clients rudely?

You know I get the whole you should show a love for the brand thingy and buy heaps of stuff you don't want just to show you love the brand. But at the end of the day why should you have to, if you want a birkin or Kelly etc why do the SA's think that they will deign to allow you to purchase one of these holy grails.

Sometimes I think just get over yourself it is a handbag, you are a company selling handbags, sell the bloody things and get over all of this bulls**t. Sorry, vent over, but sometimes it all seems a little bit precious! Sorry if I have offended anyone but I just shoot from the hip.

That felt good to get it off my chest!

And why should Kathy who is a grown woman be made to feel like she is a naughty child because she decided that she would like to spend over ten thousand dollars on a different colored handbag!!! Really the nerve of this woman not to accept what she was offered!

Couldn't agree more! It's your money and you can spend it how you want. She's probably pissed as she didn't get instant commission on it. As for the manager, not impressed...don't they adhere to the "treat customer with respect" mantra? Like others have said, take your money and go elsewhere where they will treat you with respect.

I'm wondering if the SA doesn't know you except for this one experience. So she may not have thought you were serious. Did you perhaps imply that orange is def. what you wanted. So she was probably thrilled to be able to offer you your first choice ?? So with your turning it down she probably doesn't have faith that you will take your next request.

I would definitely let the next store know that you are new to H and trying to decide what you want, etc. and then do you reearch and narrow it down to your choice and then go after it.

Good luck! I hope you get your Birkin soon!!

But if you really feel like you are forcing yourself to build relationship with an SA and you feel you are indirectly pressured to buy so many little things that you don't really want just in order to be in the SA's good side and allowed to get a Birkin, forget about it. Just get it from a reseller that sells brand new Birkins (even though it might be 1-2 grand more). Saves you the hassle and waiting time and getting played around.

I think you should only build relationship and buy non-Birkin items if you actually want those items, not buying that for an 'investment' to get a Birkin. I'm not buying that at all (pun intended)

If you're not really after any specific Birkin, it's really not that hard to get a Birkin and you don't need to build a long term relationship or anything. Or maybe you can buy it when you go to holiday to Japan or something. More expensive, but at least it's easier to get Birkin there.

I think you are right. The SA assumed that I knew exactly what I wanted, when I've never really held a Birkin or Kelly except once in Paris (and that was over 2 years ago). I have just decided to get one, and I wasn't expecting to hear from the SA two weeks later. I really need more time to study the different leathers and colors.

I don't mind building a relationship with a SA because I need to find out what I want. It would be like someone buying a car before they drive it. LOL. It hurt my ego some, but I'm OK now. I know so much more about LV and Chanel, and I didn't learn that overnight. I'm glad that this forum has people like you to help. I am really excited to become a Birkin or Kelly owner! They are gorgeous. And then I want a twilly, and belt, and charm. Actually, I'd like one of each. Birkin for everyday, and Kelly for times when a smaller bag is more appropriate. Thanks again everyone!
