If you had a $10,000 handbag budget...

I wonder how the responses would look if this post had ended up in
one of the more specific handbag forum sections?

I might buy something unique and in an exotic leather....
I love croco/alligator and ostrich leathers.
Then again, function is very important and lots of the high
end brands don't work for me. Maybe I'd buy a dozen high
quality bags from contemporary designers.

It's fun to dream tho....and I'm very attracted to some of the
beautiful Hermes rich pinks and blues.
I think most of our answers will really depend on if we interpreted your question to be adding to what we have or starting fresh. And, I’d bet the more “complete” we feel our collections are the more we say we’d buy bags that are passion / fantasy / aesthetics oriented (and likely more expensive) than ones that are practical.

I have a collection that suits my needs and that I adore. So, I could now be happy getting one super unique $10k + bag to add some icing. But, if I was starting out, it would have to be 4-5 practical bags.

Ladies you inspire me to keep expanding my wish list....
just in case I win the lottery!

Custom cabinetry for handbag storage.... what a great idea.
I thought of buying the condo next door and converting several rooms
into closets.... but then I realized that $400,000 for closet space was
nuts. But I fantasize about having space for my treasures.

If you turn it into a museum and charge admission it might be worth it though. :happydance:

That makes a lot of sense. If you already have a collection, then 1- 2 really great 'splurge' handbags would be a perfect addition. It you were building a collection or had an ongoing wish list, then the choices might be different.
I just love hearing everyone's thoughts.

I would put it towards the 50% pre-payment of an exotic made to order. So half a bag?
Yup, this would be me regardless of whether this was my first purchase or if I was at purse peace. Somehow, I would still find a way that 10k doesn't go far enough...it would end up being 50% down payment for some crazy exotic (crocodile, python) that was made to order. I'm with you @Christofle!

Oh and yes I would be okay just staring at it and smelling it in my closet.

To you and @Christofle - What brands do you feel do the best custom exotics?

That’s what I always end up doing so I’m in full agreement regarding the staring!

There are too many to count: Duret, Hermes (horizon), Peter Nitz, Delvaux (can only do exotics for now), and the list goes on.

I just ordered a pair of Himalayan croc shoes from Graziat and will order the tote featured below next in the same leather.

True appreciation for the beauty of exotic leathers is limited to a small group of handbag
lovers. I guess that's a good thing for many reasons. I've always loved and collected
exotic leather handbags. Some brands do embossed leathers that simulate exotic leathers.
I collect some of those also. Bright, fun, fashion colors are easier to 'justify' in the much less
costly embossed leather versions. Some look really nice, some, not so much.
Does a bright pink croco handbag look real.... even if it's genuine crocodile skin?

If I had nothing to begin with I would pretty much buy the bags I have now. I'm really happy with what I have. Maybe add a Coach Field tote 30 in Chalk.
If I was given money to buy bags in addition to what I have I probably wouldn't know what to do. Probably go to the Aspinal of London online store and go crazy.

Assuming I had nothing to begin with and this is based on $10k USD = $13,825AUD...

- Chanel mini rectangle classic flap ($6,250AUD)
- LV Alma BB in Epi ($2,840AUD)
- LV Pochette Accessoires ($1,860AUD)
- Longchamp Le Pliage Neo LH tote ($295AUD)
- Longchamp Le Pliage City SH small satchel ($350AUD)

There would be $2,230AUD left over so I would put that towards Cartier jewellery.
