I just went with it presuming the gifter was a bizarre but benevolent control freak that was reeeeeallly determined I would get another bag no matter what I said.

It's the handbag version of "Saw"... you can only escape if you spend the entire budget on bags.

I had assumed this meant you had to forego your current bags and start over with a $10k budget. I think I’d go with a Chanel mini for a day to night bag, a Celine mini belt bag for casual everyday, and a Goyard Artois for travel or work. I think I have like $500 left so I’d add a Chanel cardholder in a fun seasonal color. I’m assuming im buying all of this tax free

If it was in addition to my current bags, I’d probably get one special LE piece like the Chanel casino lucky charms reissue (preloved obviously), a box Kelly (though I’d have to add some funds for that), or maybe something custom made. I’ve been intrigued by Peter Nitz after seeing other TPFers’ bags from him.

Starting from zero? I'd buy a used Kelly, because the Kelly covers almost everything and is always chic, and then a work tote and evening bag from some brand that's great value at resale, like The Row.

If adding to my current collection, hmmm. I’d say I’d do a special edition seasonal Chanel - something with crystals or pearls or what not - but lately those seem to be above $10k so haha it wouldn’t cut it.

In truth, I’d probably get a few high end bags as opposed to just one:

• Saint Laurent Sac du Jour $2650
• Louis Vuitton Alma Empriente $2500
• Judith Leiber crystal envelope clutch $995
• Celine Nano belt bag $1950 (for the one I’m looking at)
• Chanel Trendy clutch with chain $1900

Grand total… $9,992

I might buy something unique and in an exotic leather....
I love croco/alligator and ostrich leathers.
Then again, function is very important and lots of the high
end brands don't work for me. Maybe I'd buy a dozen high
quality bags from contemporary designers.

It's fun to dream tho....and I'm very attracted to some of the
beautiful Hermes rich pinks and blues.

I have to check out your wish list! You seem to have given this question a lot of
thought. I'm familiar with the LV Alma and Judith Leiber handbags. But I want to
see the St. Laurent and Celine styles.... just for 'research' purposes.

Interesting prompt! Assuming that I'm starting from scratch, using current boutique prices in USD, and not factoring in taxes:

• LOEWE Small Puzzle Bag ($2.8k)
• CELINE Micro Luggage Tote ($2.95k)
• FAURE LE PAGE Parade Soft 23 ($2.36k)
• MULBERRY Top Handle Lily ($1.2k)
• LONGCHAMP Roseau Tote ($0.55k)
• FJALLRAVEN Kanken Backpack ($0.13k)

That would leave me about $10 left for a fancy latte. I'd mostly re-buy the bags from my collection that are still in production, albeit with a significant markup. I know LV and Chanel have been making waves with their price increases, but I can't believe how much some of these bags cost now... I recall paying about $1.9k for a small Puzzle bag when they first came out, and now they're nearly 3 grand!

Vintage Coach has gotten really hot over the past few years. And spending time here on tPF has shown me there are a few very nice Coach bags circa 2007 and 2008 that make me feel all tingle-y. I can think right off the top of my head of two Coach bags, one vintage, one from 2008, that are listed for around $1,000 each that I would go for. And I am sure I can find a specific Mulberry I'd like for that much too. Give me time, I would source a few more. And a few novelty straps ...
I'd like to spend a chunk of that on custom cabinet for my bags, accessories and small leather goods ...

For me, it would be (assuming I had to start my collection over):

1. Coach MTO Rogue 17 ($600) + Matching Coach Wallet (~$200) for an everyday bag
2. YSL Monogram Chain Wallet ($1,590) for nights out, probably black with black hw since my style is more edgy
3. LV Palm Springs Mini ($2,440) secondary everyday bag
4. Doughnut Macaroon Backpack (~$80), this has been a reliable school and work bag for years now! Can't live without it.
5. Coach Cassie... I know I could go for the Pochette Metis but like, I really do prefer the simplicity of the Cassie over empreinte leather ($295?)

I'd have to have my staple SLGs, lol.

1. Gucci Ophidia Key Pouch ($390)
2. My Heritage Mini Pochette ($925... which is insane considering I originally paid $640)

$6520... if I had to spend it all on bags I'd give my mom the rest of it to buy the bags she wanted. She'd have no issue with that.
