If you had $3500 to spend what designer bag(s) would you buy?!

Oh, this! If you want just one piece, an Evelyne would definitely serve many purposes. Somehow I always seem to forget Evelyne when I think of dilemmas like this. It's a pretty bag and Hermés quality is superb. Although I'd still go for the Mulberry-Longchamp madness... :roflmfao:
+1

I couldn't stomach handing over 3500 bucks and getting back a mini bag in return. Of everything mentioned, I think the Evelyne is the best choice, because it's a good size and versatile. That said, I'd probably get more than one bag.

BV & Hermes would get my vote.. both are timeless, classic, well made &
distinctive..

For an evening out, IMO the BV knot is a standout & knockout & if you can
find any BV vintage novelties that is another way to go

We are not seeing that level of craftsmanship in the marketplace today

I think it might be a good idea to put that money aside until you see a bag you MUST have. Just because you have $X to spend, that doesn't mean you have to spend $X. You might find something you love for a fraction of that cost. If you don't see anything that gets you excited, just wait until you do. Buy something you LOVE, and that you can see yourself using on a regular basis. For me, that wouldn't be Chanel... but everyone's lifestyle is different. Enjoy the search & post back when you decide on something!

So many great suggestions here! I think you should take some time and go to Hermes, Chanel, and whatever department store near you has the best handbag dept., and try everything on! See what you love, see what fits your stuff and looks best on your frame. Take photos of yourself wearing the bags (if possible, H may not allow this) and then go home and look at them.

As you do this, ask yourself if you want an everyday bag, a special occasion bag, or maybe one of each. I know someone suggested a spending spree at Longchamp or the like, but I've been down that road and it doesn't feel as special as one or two really great bags that you love.

A few other random thoughts: be really sure a Chanel Wallet on the Chain will work to you before you buy one. They are really small. It seemed practical to me at the time, but I ended up selling mine because it was too small to be functional for me.

Love the idea of the LV Sofia Coppola. The Soft Lockit is also a really pretty, luxurious bag you could use every day,

Hermes Evelyne is a great everyday bag especially if you love crossbody wear. The Hermes Garden Party and the Picotin are other H bags that fit in your price point. Another H thought: I don't have one, but some ladies get a Kelly wallet and a Farandole necklace. They use the wallet as a regular wallet, but then use the necklace as a chain strap for the bag for more fancy occasions or dinners out.

Also (and this is my last one, promise!) have a look at Fendi. Some really well-thought out designs in the By-the-Way bag, as well as the 2jours and Peekaboo. A lot of their designs transition well from everyday to evening.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Thank you so much, lots of good ideas! I am quite a distance away from the nearest designer stores, so will plan a day out and go round them all, it will be special doing that knowing for this once I can afford a dream bag. I don't want to rush a decision!

I agree, the only way I could do it is one mini bag and a more functional bag. If I spend it on one more expensive bag it will have to be functional...well, that's at least one decision made!;-)
