If you could only carry one handbag for the rest of your life....?

The one bag I would carry, (Disclaimer: IF I had to choose right now. :smile1:) is my MK Joan Satchel. First of all because it's red and I love red bags. If I can only carry one bag it has to be red. (I carry a red bag with whatever I wear.)

I bought Joan in red in 2011 and in a moment of weakness sold her on ebay in 2012. Recently when I was looking for the "perfect" satchel for my needs I remembered Joan and I went searching for her on ebay and lucked up on this one in great condition.

Joan meets all my current requirements: Satchel, with a detachable strap, an outside pocket, feet on the bottom, top zip for security, a key leash for my spare keys, lots of compartments inside, big enough to hold a 16 oz water bottle, scarf and all my other junk, but not too big that it's overwhelming, and it's a soft leather but not too soft that it puddles too much.

If I couldn't change handbags I'd probably redirect my spending to wallets and wristlets!

It’s fascinating to see bags from another time, so I’m asking here now are you still carrying that one bag… how’d that work out for you?
Good question!

I can't believe my post above was ten years ago! (April 14, 2015). When I moved out the city in 2024 my MK Joan got buried in one of the containers in my DD's shed. And that's only because I didn't want to part with it again since I replaced it once. When I searched "Joan" in my posts history, the last time I carried it was April 25, 2023. (But that was the first and only time in years.)

Joan lost her place as my one and only because over time it has no structure for a satchel and puddles too much. Also it does not do well at all in the rain. It dries back to normal but it has deep wet spots all over the bag until it dries. If I had to choose now it would be an all weather bag. But I have purchased many bags like that since 2015. I love most of them and can't choose one.

Interesting to revive this thread! And it seems that posters who originally answered in the 2010s talked about all sorts of bags whereas recent answers have mostly been H...more evidence of the crazy H coveting.

I used to want this...to find that "one bag" that would do and be everything for life. But have realized it's impossible. Needs change, tastes change. Though I'm hoping that my current "two HGs" collection will serve me for the next decade or so!

I just started carrying my Tsatsas Sacar L and I can tell you I'd like it to be my one bag - I'm sure it will hold up to daily wear - it's certainly an easy carry bag and will hold my life, if I need it to. It's a severe adjustment for me, though, I've been carrying a small bag for almost a year.

My cheap coach outlet bag in white or black. Not fancy not expensive but lightweight with multiple carry options, a few pockets that can hold the basics , lays flat against my body and can deal with some rain . One negative they can't stand up on their own but it's manageable.
They're slowly starting to fall apart and idk how I will replace them because nothing seems comparable.

Definitely my Loewe small puzzle - it's a great all around bag. Honorable mentions: Givenchy small pepe pandora, Celine nano luggage. All my bag choices have multiple ways to carry them (crossbody, shoulder, hand carry, some crook of the arm).

It hasn’t helped that the other brands have crept up and even exceeded H bag prices in some cases. (The other options from competitors used to be a relative bargain…)
