Hello, I’m new here. I bought this coach crossbody bag as a graduation present to myself from a coach dealer in 1976. It’s been through a lot, and still in pretty good condition, I haven’t carried it for 15 years and it need some good moisturizer. I’d like to carry it again. I can’t find any information on it. Because it’s a 1970 era vintage, it has the actual serial number. Any idea of the style? I sent it in to coach for a free recondition about 20years ago and they put all new cording on…..back when they still did that. Purchased in East Lansing MI.

The style doesn't appear in my catalogs until Summer 1986, and the page says it's a "NEW" style. It's a genuine Companion Bag, style 9300.
Research indicates that Coach was't even using any kind of stamped serial number in 1976, and my earlier catalogs from 1976, 1979, and 1981 through 1985 don't include that style. If you're basing the date on some online or Facebook Groups "guide", several of the most often-quoted ones are off in their estimated dates by as much as 10 years. PLEASE don't depend on them for any kind of accurate information!
The Salearea Coach Guides posted here at tPF have accurate information on dating the detail changes in Coach bags, creeds and serial numbers. Some of the older URL links don't work any more because various sites like Ebay have removed pages or features or changed forum titles, but the dates are accurate:

Now that ebay is removing the guides they've been hosting for years, those who use those guides have been forced to either save them on their computers or print them. Tonight I found that the Salearea guides (including the Hyacinth/Salearea collaboration ones) have been saved to Salearea's...
