Hi

I'm thinking about selling my engagement ring (wedding was canceled), in my contry it's not a big market for jewlere or other expensive stuff. So where do I go to get the best price for it?
When it was new the appraisal was 45 000dollar, how much can I expect to get for it?
Jewels by Grace is a very popular jeweler that is highly recommended on a top jewelry forum and they take consignments. For items with a sales price over $15,000 USD, they charge a 15% commission.
Circa Jewels will buy jewelry outright rather than on consignment so you could have a check as soon as you accept their offer. If you don't accept their offer they will ship your item back to you.
GL!

But also listing fees, authentication, catalogue prices... Not sure if that is still the case, couple of years ago a relative sold a painting and the hidden costs were amazing

Ah OK.

Not to my knowledge. Could be fine art is different. I've only sold through Bonhams and Chisties but not regularly.

I've only paid seller's fee, the buyer of course pays buyer's premium and sometimes VAT if the seller is a business. One of them also charges % for paying with a CC (but can't remember which one, I think Bonhams). I believe some used to charge extra for larger pictures in the printed catalogue, many years ago (talking decades - my mother's days when I was dragged along and bored to tears) but since the listings have to have pics nowadays they did away with that.

Have to weight-up they can sometimes get higher prices at the right specialist auction.

True, but I think they feature items that have provenance, as somebody famous had that ring before, etc, not sure how much of it is negotiable, I totally understand that they want to be 100% sure that what they are auctioning off is authentic, but a distant cousin was a bit gobsmacked and regretted not reading the fine print, I think all the other costs were another 20% on top of the auction costs, especially since they rang him and asked if he would like to have it featured in the catalogue, more exposure, they didn't mention the costs (he had already signed) and just asked him to fax over that he wants it featured, I think it was the one with S....

Excellent suggestion. Try contacting her. She is very good and gets a lot of traction on her website. She is very trusted as a reseller.

If the diamond is 1 carat or more, it HAS value. The setting is worth very little. Get a GIA or equivalent appraisal on the diamond.
Visit all the jewellery stores in your area with your respected appraisal certificate. Don't get ripped off. Take your time, but you need to know the value of your diamond.

Can you give me som data on the ring?

Im working as a pawnbroker in Sweden so we se a lot of jewellery.

If we ara talking rough numbers we pay/borrow about 25% of estimated insurance value. And when we sell such items we normally get like 30-60%.

But expensive jewellery are hard to sell if it doesnt have a famlus designer Right now we have a platinum ring with a center diamond at 1,75ct and side stones at 0,35ct. Estimated price in shop is about $300K, we are asking $135K and very little intrest has been shown.

I would check the auction houses - Bonhams Christies Sothebys Doyle Leslie Hindman. The buyers premium is much higher generally than the sellers premium...check to see what their rates are and what they would want to list it at.

Have you thought about consigning to TheRealReal? I have sold some things there at good prices.
