The wonderful thing about escalating threads such as this one is that it's really easy to spot the trolls, find out their real nicks and ban them all.

I like to call it deep tissue cleansing. Something this forum has needed in a while.

^^ i think vlad wanted us to get back to the original posters issue..

so how do the handles look like now? are they getting any better?
I have never sprayed anything on my lv bags..even LV dosent recommend it. I just let the patina process take its natural course.

Okay. Last week when this all started I ran to my storage unit and got my black Gianfranco Ferre out and put olive oil on it. It turned soft and moist and gorgeous, I have been using it all week... Then I did it on a pink Tocca travel bag that I adore and have had for years... My bf (todd who left the message) came in and said no nono, never on a colored bag. The EVOO I used was yellow, you're supposed to use completely clear, cause it will discolor the bag. It turned my pink bag a salmon color, which actually I love and made it soft and supple and not so dried out. But, I"m not doing it anymore. I need to buy some real leather products and I will buy mine from Brahmin, since I have bought several of their bags.

But, Vuitton, I don't know. I don't want to put anything on mine, I do want them to age naturally, but I'm American and not under a lot of peer pressure...

and, yes, this is just all personal opinion.

Well, BF told me his mom has a few old LV pieces in her trunk so i may just have to experiment with them. One of them sounds like its a Noe from what he describe. The other sound like an alma. He said something about triangle shaped bag too? LOL! Anyway, it should be lots of fun.

If the triangle shaped bag looks like this please don't experiment - it's a valuable vintage bag!

I think that at this rate, if someone has put oil on the naked vachetta and then changed their mind about it for whatever reason, the oil cannot be removed 100% without damaging the vachetta. It's a different story if one spilt oil on clothing - strong laundry detergent will get the stains out of clothing. But obviously, one cannot submerge LV vachetta into a bucket of Tide detergent. So, if there was damage as a result of the olive oil, one cannot turn back the clock.

IMO, I believe in letting nature take its course. Patina will inevitably occur. It doesn't matter to me if someone swears by olive oil, Mazola corn oil, or Kentucky Fried chicken oil to patina the leather. For me personally, the natural way is best.

If you want to speed up the patina process, you could place your bag under an indoor light for several hours a day for any number of weeks. That helps the patina process as well, without the risk of potential damage.

Oh that sounds just like what he describe to me today! I never knew of Lv having a triangle shaped bag. I thought he just was being a guy and not knowing how to describe a bag. LOL. Thank you Coltsfan.
