Ugh, the seller got back to me and was willing to ship the bag to the US, but wanted more than $500 for it. I just couldn't do it, because another poster here on the PF posted a photo from the UK version of TJ Maxx, where she'd found it on sale for the equivalent of about $270.
I think campomaggi bags are beautiful !

Have you seen the Caterina Lucchi bags that Campomaggi does for women. They have the same thick leather look but with a feminine twist... hoping for a good winter sale price somewhere.
Beauty doesn't need hardware.

You're right! The seller has offered it to me at $480, including shipping, and I have contacted her to accept. I likely won't find this bag again and I love it.

Campomaggi make fabulous bags. The online sales are mainly through Marcopolini and Wardow. Wardow site gives the weight - some are heavy (1.5k or over 3 lbs) but some are a more standard 0.4k. A warning about purchasing from Wardow- I paid through direct transfer to their account and was then told I had to pay an extra $20 to cover their bank fees - more money and the bother of a second transfer. I protested but their customer service people were totally unhelpful - they seemed to have no idea that this experience doesn't go down too well. So my advice is to buy from Marcopolini.
Finally I ordered one. It's not so heavy (0,9 Kg) so it should work for me. Can't wait to get it!
Yes Campomaggi bags are awesome! Truly unique and one-of-a-kind, and I dont think there is a better smelling leather out there. I buy through Marcopoloni in Campbell, CA- total sweethearts to deal with and truly make you feel like family
