"I can't deal with this!" - (how) does your personality limit your choices?

Here's my list. :)
- long wallet. I learn my lessons. As much as I'm yearning for one lady-like long wallet, it's not practical for me. Take up so much space, hence bad for switching from bag to bag. Get heavy fast.
- bag with cheap lining. That flimsy synthetic fabric often used for dry cleaning bag. Not my thing.
- wallet with no coin compartment. I live in a country that is still cash-based and I don't always shop in department store. I need space specifically for those coins. Zipped one preferred since the coins won't get out of its place.
- clutches. I need my hands free.
- plastic-looking leather. I'm ok with plastic and PVC bags, but not one to claim to be leather. And leather that look like a plastic or PVC, definitely a no.
- slim strap. I pack a ton in my bag. The strap cut my skin and it doesn't look like it can hold the weight.

I can't think of anything now. :)

This thread is hilarious!

- no light colored bags, especially white, I own few beige and taupe and am always afraid to carry these.
- open top, I could carry a tote with random things but never for my wallet, keys, cell etc.,
- black lining or unpleasant feeling fabric lining
- bags with too many pockets, it drives me nuts if I can't find anything in there. I guess they would work much better if I would remember where something is but I don't. :)
- wallets without coin compartment, where should you put the change?
- bags/wallets which take forever to open and close. I don't like to leave the counter without putting money/card/receipt away, never stuff it just into the pocket, so you can imagine how stressful these accessories can be.
- I don't do animal prints or embossing.
- although I love the feel suede or nubuk, would never buy these as they seem to show wear very quickly.
- obviously badly made, as soon as I see leaking clue or hanging threads, back to shelf it goes.
- don't like faux leather and PVC, because of possible lead content.

There is probably more...:)

Love this thread! It gives a lot of insight on experiences.

1) zip top or magnetic closure a must. I hate it when my stuff falls out when i have to brake hard or make a harsh turn. Open tops are not secure! I see so many women rocking LV neverfulls here with the bag wide open. Cant deal!
2) White. Never again. I have a YSL white downtown in buffalo. The leather is tough and hardy. It is my summer vacation bag but it does look 100 yrs old.
3) Brown or other earthy tones. Got rid of 2 mono LVs and a chanel. It really washes me out as I am olive toned. I love blacks and blues. Pinks and metallics for small bags like Chanel reissues or classic flaps.
4) Top handles
5) bags with shoulder strap features that were after-thought. I dont have any of these but hate the look of these satchels with shoulder straps flapping on the woman as she uses her crossbody strap. Not a good look!
6)Non leather lining in premium brands. Chanel does this ALOT. Why?!!

Rolled handles vs flat straps. I am thankful for the perspectives here on rolled vs flat. I am seeking a reliable work tote that has rolled handles. Now i thinknof my downtowns handles. :shudder: so gross and dry.

I can't stand: white/light colours (gets grubby too quickly), open top or snap/magnet close (must have a zipper), ostrich (even faux ostrich, it's those "nipples" that bother me), too big (any bigger than about the size of an LV Speedy), extra straps (catch on doorknobs when hand carried, if removable I will buy it if I like it otherwise and then immediately take off the extra shoulder strap), wallets must have a coin pocket with it's own zipper (like an LV Clemence).

I think some of the considerations here are more aesthetic than OP's original practical ones, I think my pet hate bridges both. I can't deal with the whole name of the designer written on the outside. It makes me feel unsafe wherever I travel, I'd feel really awkward and have to wear the name facing me. Sometimes I think mono is actually preferable because most assume 'fake' and they're usually practical offerings in canvas, even large trademark logos like CCs or GGs are OK because not everyone gets it, there is still an elegance there for me somehow. I'd much rather have some beautiful iconic hardware/feature/initials or nothing at all than it spelled out. After all, I know where I bought my bag thank you very much :D

Large wallets without a change compartment is a waste of space for me, but I don't mind a mini wallet/card holder and separate change purse in smaller bags.

I just came to think of this as I was looking at a gorgeous off-white wallet. I'd like a light colored wallet and this one is totally up my alley; roomy, stylish and practical. Except...it has 3 flaps with snap button closures! :weird:

Let me explain. There's a reason why I haven't bought a Mulberry Alexa, Roxanne or a Mabel. Alexa has a postman's lock and 2 straps with magnetic closure. Roxanne has 3 straps with magnetic closures. Mabel has 1 plus a zipper.

There's a reason why I haven't got a zippy wallet. I had 2, but gave one away and sold the other. I still have one that's got a card compartment and a zippy one for bills, coins etc. I don't use it so might as well give that up, too.

There's a reason why I've given up almost all of my slouchy bags and use pouches to organize my bigger bags.

The reason is that I'm very, very, VERY impatient. I have ADD and I hate everything that takes a whole lotta effort to get into, find things in or get things out of. I've been known to tip a bag upside down to find something hiding in the wrong place within the bag (and this has happened in public places!).

A 3-flap wallet would probably drive me crazy within 2 days. Seriously, I can see myself losing it completely if I had to get a loyalty card under flap&snap #1, cash under flap # 2 and coins under #3! O.M.G.

What's your characteristic that limits your bag/SLG purchases? ADD? OCD/"OCD"? Just plain little habits? Do you have some specific rules?

Please tell me I'm not the only one!

I have Alexa but I never bothered to fasten the 2 strap. Just the postman lock is good enough. I do that for any bag that has more than 1 closure.

I have bad habit of driving very fast which means I also need to press on brake pedal more [emoji52]
..... I'm too lazy to pick up all stuff that spill out from those bags! Sometimes I only found smaller stuff when I send my car to be washed. That's why NO NO open totes for me! The very few totes I own r mainly use as pool bags

Excellent thread topic! :)

Hmmm.
1) White bags
I owned 1. Soon resembled roadkill with tire skids. Tragic. Never again. Everything about me repels pristine & excessive upkeep.

2) Zip-around wallets, ditto
Love look/features, but purchase ye ol' fold & snap models. Ability to cut skin on practically anything intensifies, when hurriedly rummaging for snack money. 1 tiny zipped coin compartment is all I can manage without frequent hospital visits.

3) Bucket bags
People love these. But, drawstrings worry me. When I launder drawstring pants or hoodies, strings burrow back into tiny fabric holes, as frightened undersea eels. Never to be seen again. Have developed trust issues. So, avoid skittish eel closures on my handbags--annoying things.

4) Exciting/loud bag linings
Again, people love these. People also love online games & those digital display signs @ petrol stations. But, I prefer a more calm world to cram full of lip balm & tissues. Otherwise, my brain makes angry noises & demands more time near trees.

5) Ostrich (avoid all exotics, just to be kind--but, ostrich skin reaaaaaaaaaally bothers me)
All I see are pig nipples. And being rushed by hundreds of starving piglets, who attach to suckle ostrich bag. Forcing me to drag a swine menagerie along my route. If bag is blue, I see ice piglets with frost on snouts. If red, imagine devil piglets, snorting flame. Tragically warped.

I'm sure there's more. But would require some kind of therapy to investigate, probably. ;)

You are hilarious!!!
Your description re: bucket bags and ostrich is just...

Just thought of another one: plastic zippers in any bag over $500. I see that and it gives me a nails on the chalkboard feeling. If they're cutting that corner because they think no one will mind, it makes me wonder what other corners they're cutting.

Wow- after reading through all these I realize I am really not picky at all!

Only things I can think of:
1) wallet must have coin compartment, but I almost prefer to use coin purse for a wallet
2) no white bags for me either, but beige and other light colors are OK
3) no drawstring bags

- I prefer black bags but brown, nude or pink will do (though I do see orange and green bags that are cute)
- I don't like monogram
- No big wallets
- No short straps
- No huge bags because I am very short
- Not too much hardware
- No white purses
- Simple lining is preferred

I can't deal with messenger style bags or any bag with a big flap over the opening. I've recently discovered I dislike zip around wallets as well. Also me plus cross body = no Bueno.
