I think thats the whole aesthetic of the design tho. Their campaigns for the last few seasons give off the tacky and quirky vibe.
my DH (he happened to be along when i snapped those blue and yellow ones in Florence) asked if they are for the girls, kinda 'i'm matching my Mum's bag' thing... i said, if only! the price is very adult appropriate!
But it isn't quirky enough. It just looks like something that a cat lady would carry, although with better leather. There needs to be something that makes people realize it is ironic.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who is shaking their head! Lol. I thought it looks very juvenile (like between 10-12 yrs old) as well. My daughters who are in there 20’s wouldn’t carry this if it was free! I’m not sure what demographic Balenciaga is trying to attract
maybe thats what they're going for; it may not be iconic to you but I think they're on their own page of wackiness.
I suppose the ironic thing is they're not ironic (kind of cheap birthday card pics). Have you noticed how everything for women is 0-80 year old is pink and has kittens/unicorns/teddy bears?
At least Gucci's cats are angry (Angry Cat) but I don't like those either. And the slogans are naff.
Demna Gvasalia may not be as iconic as Alessandro Michele, creative director at Gucci, but can't you say the same thing with Gucci? they have embroidered cats and craziness all over. Balenciaga is more of a "diet" version if it.
Totally agree, but Gucci and givenchy Have a more sophisticated kind of quirky and they still offer gorgeous “regular” bags. I just feel Balenciaga is getting away from what made their brand. These kitten and dog bags look so cheap and juvenile, IMO. Obviously Bal must have some intel that they will sell, otherwise why would they make them. I just miss the old bags....

I agree, it almost feels like Moschino. The teddy bear and unicorn feel. Their old bags are cute too I miss them but I also like their newer bags too not really the kitten bags.
I also have a feeling like they're almost mocking "fashion" and the people who have the money to buy; like when they created the "Ikea" bag and they made a leather version of their shopping bags, and many more. Like they're mocking the ugly trend and how people with money will spend money on these things.
As a cat person, I wouldn’t carry that.
Sticking a photo of my cat onto my City bag would be a much more preferred opinion. More personalised and Tim Tam is way cuter
