I am concerned that Coach is knowingly selling flawed bags for the same price!

I do not think these bags were priced like that. I know what you mean...I got my Jade Ocassion pouch from the outlet for $50, because it had a broken chain strap. But hubby fixed it, and it's perfect now. :D

However, I think what the OP was saying is these bags were the same price as the regular ones. That is not right.

Coach FP stores do send "irregular" bags and items to the Outlet. They are required to put a tag on them discribing what is wrong with the item. I have in fact been to the outlet and seen bags that still have the "irregular" tags on them and they usually are additionally maked down...for example....there was a overnight leather duffle bag that was tagged "irregular". It did mention the handle had a snap that had come off of it, but was discounted because of it. From FP stores if there is a defect in items, we put a "as is" tag on it annd sent it to the outlet too! These tags usually are still on the items when sold at the outlet too!

That's fine, if the "upside down" bags had been labeled as "seconds" or "irregulars" or "as is, final sale" I would have been okay with that. What got me upset was the fact that they were mixed in (without labeling) among the perfect bags being offered for the same price, and then the SA tried to tell me that they were "special"! Like having the logo upside down was an "extra value added feature" or something! Good grief!

The only thing I saw on the Purple Sophias at the Aurora outlet was an arrow sticker on the long strap. Put that one down and searced for another one.

Special Bags, omg, lmao

special bags should have a special price,,,,,,,,,,,,,20 bucks, lol

too funny

irregulars shouldnt even be on the shelf , they should be put in a furnace

come on quality control,,,,,,,,,,,,,omg

I guess I was always under the assumption that items that were irregular were more likely to end up at the outlets (for any store, not just Coach). I think they should have offered an extra % off for the irregularity (I've noticed Coach do this in the past at various outlets and mark it as a final sale item), but I don't think that Coach should have not put the bags on the floor b/c of the upside down logo. This is why I do my best to thouroughly check over anything purchased from an outlet store, Coach or other. Honestly, the upside down logo wouldn't automatically make me think it was a cheap knock-off, nor would I expect extreme discounted pricing because of it, but that's just me.
I do agree though, the SA could have responded to the situation better.

This.

Originally, factory stores were for defective bags, not bags made especially for the factory. Anytime we find an upside down logo we joke about it being a "special" bag (among SAs) but they never end up on the floor if we can help it, and we don't try to pass them off as special, or collector's items. I think perhaps the SA that did so was trying to save the sale, rather than devalue the bag. Doesn't make it right, but just saying. Bags that are defective like that SHOULD go to the factory, that's what the factories are for, but it shouldn't be hailed as a rare, special item. It's defective and that's that.

If I went to an outlet and ended up buying a bag I would give it a thorough looking over so there would be no accidental purchase of a flawed bag, and honestly I think it might be kinda cool to have a bag with an upside-down logo on it. This wouldn't make me angry.

I think the aggressive discounting at the outlets, as well as the mff goods and the selling of irregulars at the outlets (without marking them irregulars) will end up cheapening the coach brand and will cannibalize and hurt their fp sales in the long run.

Coach needs to remember that if the outlets get a reputation for selling cheap, inferior goods, then eventually that reputation will affect the brand as a whole.

well said!

Wow, the whole thing is interesting. And I too agree with ltbag

I have to admit, the initial "rush" of the outlets faded pretty quickly for me. I'm very pleased with the accessories I found good bargains on, but I guess the whole outlet scene is too frantic for my taste. I've never even performed real "stalking", but I just couldn't get into the idea of constantly visiting; constantly stalking; and the whole idea of racing to get something before someone else did -- often, it sometimes seems, not simply because you've come to love the bag, but just because it's too exciting to grab it 'before someone else'. I guess what I'm saying is something my husband's nana used to say ... a bargain isn't really a bargain if you don't really want or need it.

Shrug. There are a few bags I want in particular, mostly styles from a couple years ago that I'll have to just purchase (someday) elsewhere. .... But yeah, the rush of the outlets idea really did wear off quite some time ago. At least in terms of actual bags. :-/

I am new to Coach and new to Michigan. (as I have previously posted in another thread) I have a bunch of Chloe and balenciaga bags from my many years living in nyc. I stopped buying Chloe bags when the quality went down but the price didn't, and I have stopped buying bbags because they really don't fit my new Michigan lifestyle. (But I still love my bbags)

I have been to the Birch Run Coach outlet, and it was my first time in a Coach outlet since high school, (I never went into the Coach outlet when I went to Woodbury because it was always such a madhouse) and frankly, I was not impressed. The mff goods looked cheap and poorly made. People were lined up around the place and there were no high quality bags to be found. It was all mff stuff and signature stuff that looked like someone should be selling it on Canal street for $40 to a tourist. :p

The reason I am wearing Coach is that I got a gorgeous, practical bag at a really good price. I paid full price for my black Kristin hobo, and bought it online on the coach site after trying out in my local fp store. (they didn't have a large one at the time in black) I wouldn't mind buying one in one of the discontinued colors on ebay or at the outlet, but I am not going to fight ebay resellers at an overcrowded outlet to get one. My time is worth money too.

I wonder if this is something that can be attributed to that particular SA? Did she take it upon herself to sell the bag that way in order to make a sale?

That's what I think. And what I'm hoping too. But things are different in the factory stores, so I don't know if they're taught that or if it was just that one SA.
