The SA says the leather will patina over time...

The tribe leather bag that I bought was soooo dry and paper thin, that I promptly boxed and sent it back. Yours, on the otherhand looks great! I think it's a cute casual, throwaround bag. How do you like it?

The leather is very thick and chewy. It felt dryish but the SA assured me that use of the bag and the oils of my hands would soften the bag and patina the leather which I am sure will happen. I try not to buy the floor model but the one she gave me from the drawer was very light in colour and dry looking...the floor model looked darker in colour and more "healthy'..KWIM?

I am still not 100% sure I will keep her. I just feel like she is missing something on the front...like a logo or a zipper pocket or something else. I do love the long strap and how the bag looks crossbody on me. I might kick myself if i return it because I quite like her. I love the m0851 bags, they use similar beautiful leathers that patina over time...but the hobo and shopper style bags have absolutely no zipper closure so the Roots bag fits the bill and are at a better price point.

What do my fellow tPFer's think about my new Roots bag: The Small Grace Bag in Vintage Tribe Leather. I so love the raw leather and the casualness of it. There is not Roots logo in the front or back...is on the bottom of the bag. Is she a keeper? I am undecided at the moment. $248.

Its Gorgeous!! And doesn't look all that small!
What's stopping you?

Oh just saw your comment on something being missing - actually I love the simplicty of it and that it doesn't have a logo so its just the bag and that lovely lovely Roots leather!

I agree. If you feel that something is "missing," then maybe a longer key chain hooked on the handle might do the trick?? Personally, I love their minimalistic designs. There's nothing more off-putting than an in-your-face logo.

you and rabbits are so right...actually it was the simplicity of the bag that drew me to her...the other bags in the store had too much everything else going on and I know she will patina to a really gorgeous colour too...I guess what is holding me back is that I spend soooo much $$$$$ on my handbag Obsession (notice the capital letter) and need to make sure I make smart choices and not just buy on impulse. I don't have a bag like this in my collection however...I may just take her out today and be done with it! Thanks ladies!;)

any update on this? I am thinking on buying the Grace bag online.
I just took it back yesterday to Roots. I went to the downtown location and it seems the manager was not very receptive. The problem was obvious and she could not understand the defect and I explained it to her and she said "oh, we have never had this problem before!". She inspected the rest of the bag over and over and I told her I just purchased it a few days ago and never used it. Also, she was not happy that the paper stuffing was still in the bag...I told her I specifically asked for it and use it to keep the shape of the bag when in storage. She didn't move very quickly when I told her I did not want another bag because I feared the same issue.

Overall the return experience was negative...difficult to explain. I still love the bag but I would say Coach treats me way better.

I am sure there are Grace bags/Roots bags out there that are sturdy built to last but I just personally had a negative experience overall. I guess once I get over the negative experience I had, I will revisit Roots.

Ok, thanks a lot for the info. It is really sad as Roots online doesn't have a lot of selection

I love Roots bags for the most part. I think they are pretty high quality for the price. The customer service has been hit or miss in my experience.
At the moment, I have 2 - one is tribe leather and the other is like a sueded leather. I used the tribe leather bag for about 6 months straight but stopped because it developed a patina - but only where my I held my arm against the bag. It was pretty much the only spot that darkened and people began to ask me if I spilled something on my bag in that spot! I still love the style, though, and they don't make it anymore.
