Can a manager make an employee to work over 60 hours a week from Mon-Sat because she is an excempt employee. Also the manager does not allow the exempt employee to go out to have lunch, instead wanted the excempt employee to have lunch inside the break room. So the employee has to be inside the work place all day long. Note : no overtime pay for all the extra hours worked.

What do you mean by being an exempt employee? Exempt from what - rules and regulations? Are you a contract employee?

Depending where you live and what the regulations are and depending if your an union employee or not. No, they can't make you sit in break room to have your lunch, and where I live overtime is paid if you work over 8 hrs a day or over 80 hrs per week. If we're short staffed and someone wants to work 8 hrs a day for 7 days then day 7 (8 hrs) is paid at an overtime rate.

As I'm not sure what you do for a living or where you live. You have one of two options....go to your HR manager, or go to the labour board.

It really depends on your state, but generally, your employer is required to give you a break/lunch. In Florida, I have to take at least a 30 minute break at some time during my work hours.
As for your hours, all I know is that exempt/salaried employees are assumed a 40 hour week, but you might work more or you might work less. I'd look into the labor laws for your specific state to be sure as to what's legal and what's not.

hi OP, no manager can tell you where to eat lunch. As an exempt employee, you are not required to be paid overtime, but i'm curious to know more details. PM me (i'm in HR in Texas) and i can try to give you the resources you need to find your answer.

this!!!

i'm sorry, i don't know the whole story, but this is disgusting. your manager is truly taking advantage of you (or whomever this is about) and cannot tell you where you can and cannot eat your lunch. that is just despicable. i hope there's more to this story than what you're mentioning because it truly disgusts me what managers will try to get away with in this day and age.

While most of the posters here are higher income and work in jobs with a fair amount of autonomy, most people in the world in general cannot just "get out". Many people who work at low or no autonomy jobs can be "made" to do things because they can be fired for any reason. People would rather work unpaid OT and be told they cannot take breaks than be unemployed.
