I am also fairly new to the world of heels, but my biggest problem is that my cheaper shoes wear out SUPER quick at the tips of the toes and i know they're not th best quality but they're really not that bad any where else!! Maybe it has something to do with the way I'm walking? any ideas????

@ ladysapphire the best thing i found was special bandaids especially for blisters they are great for breaking in new shoes, they were just from my local chemist! goodluck :)

This is always going to happen, particularly with stiletto heels even better quality ones, you just have to watch and have the heel tips replaced regularly. Some cobblers use slightly harder material that lasts longer. On the toes you can have toe tips glued on by a good cobbler - either metal/rubber/leather - or a full rubber sole once you have worn them for a while.

With a good designer shoe it is worth taking them in and having new leather soles put on - but only choose a really good cobbler who knows what they are doing not just anyone .

Thanks that's really helpful :)

If you can answer a few questions we might be able to help more.

What shoes are you wearing now?, as some designers and styles are better than others.
What type of heel and height is what you normally wear everyday?
What is your foot arch like? - have you ever done dance or ballet?

Those with a pronounced arch and who have or do dance/ballet generally find it easier to wear higher heels.

Trying to go straight to wearing 5" heels is not a good idea.

Right now its mainly flats as i don't drive so walk everywhere, though i do have some 4" wedges with 1" heel that i use for shopping.

i use mainly Kurt Geiger shoes and Ash, i have a range from 2 inch to 6 inch heels.

i have done dance when i was younger and i have arches trending towards high arches.

I do indeed find it easy, almost natural to walk in heels but having never worn them until 6 months ago it is the pain in the ball of my feet that causes me problems, thank you for your help :)

Flyboy2, luckily im going to italy in a few weeks so i will pick some up when im there :p

That's the place to get them :D you might want to invest in a couple pairs of foot ball guard you may or may not always have a problem. I have the same problem with the balls of my feet they usually start hurting if I have been in my heels all day long, I am also a FA (Flight Attendant) so I am on my feet for anywhere from 4 to 10+ hours and usually in heels for half to the full time. since you do mostly walking always make sure when you wear your heels to bring a pair of flats in your bag with you that way you can always switch if your feet are telling you too. Can't wait to see your Italian shoes when you get back

The pain is because that is where all the downward pressure ends up, partciualrly if you are wearing shoes that provide little support e.g. thin strap sandals. Also if the soles are thin this combined with the pressure will result in a burning sensation particularly if walking on hard or rough pavements. Shoes with more support, or slight platforms or with more insole padding might be better. Can enhance the padding with foot petals etc as well to hep.

If you are going to the right bit of Italy lots of designer outlets - good luck hope you pick up some really nice designer bargins.

I'm a beginner with wearing heals I've worn flats all my life but as I'm getting older I want to start wearing heels..I worn a pair not so long ago from my collection they were platforms not the best to choose and they killed me!! Here are some tips from a blogger:

Also, make sure you have good posture and contract your stomach muscles a bit to prevent low back pain. Maybe tuck your bum under a bit to keep your lower back in a neutral position (not crunched, don't arch your lower back).

Wow thanks got alot of information from that! I have ball of foot cushions too maybe they would help!

Depending on your level of inexperience with heels, you might want to start with a pair of wedges. They will give you the height, but offer a bit more stability than regular heels. From there your can graduate to heels. If you are relatively graceful you can probably start with heels that are a bit thicker and not too high (I wouldn't go above 4-5 inches for your first pair...2-3 inches is probably easiest though).

If you're going from wearing flats your whole life to trying heels... then the jump to 100mm heels is quite a leap!! It's more than okay to start shorter. Moreover, there are many fashionable heels in the 50mm-70mm range. (Valentino Rockstud kitten heels @ 65mm come to mind... ;))

So what's your issue with heels exactly?

Wobbly ankles?
Or wobbly directly over the heels themselves?
Pinchy toes?
Unstable back and forth feeling?
Or unstable side to side feeling?
Unsure of how high you are?
Can't feel the ground under your feet/shoe?

Do you know why you fell down when you wore your heels? Were they too high, too unstable, too tight, too thick of a platform/wedge, etc?

There are so many heels - but they're not all created equal - in terms of comfort, stability, heel thickness, pitch, sole thickness, footbed, depth, etc. While some people are comfortable in any pair of heels, others have specific requirements that make some heels more wearable than others. Figuring this out may help you find a pair that works for you.

Once you find a pair you like, you can practice with them and you can slowly work your way up to higher and higher heels. The confidence you gain in a shorter pair will help ease you into higher pairs.

GL!!

I am also not a heel wearer. I only have two pears that I rarely wear. One is my clubbing pair, the other my classic nude pumps. Three inches is the best height in my opinion to start with. My clubbing pair are 3 inch wedges. (Not the straw type). Nonetheless, they are really comfy so when everyone is dying at the club and walking bare feet, I am fine. For the classic pumps, mine are really comfy. I bought them cheap because I had an interview the next day. However, the inside is really comfy. I suggest starting with a cheap pair of 3 inch heels that you can exhaust before going for an expensive pair that you will never wear. I don't wear mine often but they are a good introduction to heels. I'll also be graduating in a year and I'll be going to a lot of formal type events that require a suit and pumps.
