Like my Dr Nick Rhodes, Dr George Toledo of Dallas, Texas has done over 1000 facelifts. Unlike Nick, George is a proponent of IV steroids and postop oral medrol pack steroids for his natural facelifts. I wonder how much he charges? His patients will have had zero swelling as he covers them appropriately with steroids intra and postop so his facelifts will heal fast and have longevity too! He gets an A+!

That's one A+ FL, that lady looks 20 years younger and sharper.

@MissOrange did you ever do Ulthera, Thermage, or any such ultrasound or RF lifting in the past? For someone who's 40, perhaps that's a good place to start the lifting journey?
Here is another A+ result of Dr George Toledo in another 50-59 year old lady. Steroids truly help a facelift look good in the short and longterm.

I tried ulthera but it burned up my fat graft so that was a waste! lol. In your 40s just stick to botox and fillers.

There were so many bad results on RS using that sort of treatment. Don't believe them when they say " the other doctors don't know how to use it properly but our doctor does'" = bullsh**

Today's post is on injury to the marginal mandibular branch of the facial nerve. One British lady described her 2022 cheap facelift journey to Turkey in theTelegraph paper where she ended up with neuropraxia or injury to the marginal mandibular which left her with a crooked smile for months. She flew back for revision in 2023 and flew back for yet another revision this month, Feb 2024! Her deep plane face and neck lift sold as lasting 10 years has not. Sounds like she did not get postop steroids. Do not get into a repetitive cycle of revisions every 1-2 years. Choose a surgeon who prescribes postop steroids.

Sadly this has happened to my friend in Turkey with Mehmet Comert. She has posted her uneven lips when she opens her mouth with weakness/palsy to one side of her lower lip. Recovery can take up to 6 months and is permanent in 1% if cut.

Yet another reason to pick a surgeon who has done 1000 facelifts and choose a smas facelift with postop steroids over an invasive deep plane as this can never happen with smas which lies above the nerve branches so cannot be injured.

Your poor friend!! Can I ask if you've heard of MyEllevate? It's a thread lift but the threads don't dissolve. I had a thread lift and was disappointed with the results so I'm wary..

I have to keep reminding myself that Asians need to get SMAs and not deep plane! I think the only real option now is to travel to Korea!
Hi Pie, May I know why asians need SMAS not deep plane? I had f/c , zygoma reduction with other multiple procedures in 2019, now my face is so saggy, I look 5-10 years older. So looking for fl.

Hi MissOrange, thanks for this thread. It’s by far the most informative one on face lifting which I can find online. i did SMAS lifting a week ago at ASPS Seoul (I also enquired with V.lift but bet on ASPS ultimately) and just want to contribute my experience here. Unfortunately I still swell quite badly despite taking prednisolone which I sourced from my GP for eczema. I started off with 10mg pre ops and increase to 20mg per day from D1 to D4. Not to mention I bruised badly too. Dr Lee Min Koo, the chief surgeon assured me that the surgery went well though so i shall wait and see in 6m time! I have alot of bad experiences with Seoul PS clinics despite its world class reputation for PS (Banobagi is the worst in my experience) since starting my PS journey since 2017 and I am hoping for the best this time that no revision is needed.

Another thing to add on, when I consulted online with V.lift regarding swelling concern, their reply was as below

“The steroid we mix is dexamethasone, this is the steroid mostly used in this generation now :) Nevertheless, the important thing is there is a mixture of steroid in the de-swelling injection which will definitely help with swelling!”.

I didn’t go with V.lift in the end so not sure how true is their words but ASPS for sure doesn’t give steroid injection.

Dear kathybunny welcome to tpf. I hope surgery went well. Are you pleased so far with the facelift? Could you please post some photos, if you want to remain anonymous you can cover your eyes because it would be really helpful. Thanks so much

Hi @kathybunny,

I would have recommended going up to 30 mg pred for a week (which is the equivalent of 24 mg of methylpred in a medrol pack) when you were still swollen on 20 mg for 4 days. 10 mg is too little to have an effect. Swelling may be proportional to how much handling of skin and tissues were done during surgery.

ASPS does smas lifts so this is good. Are you wearing head compression day and night? On the right dose of steroids all swelling should disappear within hours.
