I have searched everywhere and talked to Coach but have not been able to find an answer to how to brighten the gold tone leather straps, trim and tag on my old Coach Signature tote. I have had the bag for years and it is in excellent shape apart from the gold leather getting a bit worn in places.

:thinkin:
Thanks

We have a rehab club on the forum: http://forum.purseblog.com/coach-clubhouse/coach-rehab-and-rescue-club-833400.html

I used an Elmers metallic paint pen to fix the worn silver straps on a Glam. It would probably work for you too. Wood 'n' Stuff makes a leather refinisher in metallic colors that might work well. http://www.wood-n-stuff.com/leatheraid.html

You can post pictures in the rehab club to get more advice.

Thanks. Will try to obtain one of the products you suggest. It really doesn't need much.

I've read so many things about cleaning / caring for bags that my head was spinning :cray: Basically, I was just wanting to find something to prevent stains/damage to my leather bags but there are SO many options!

I initially bought the Coach moisturizer based on the recommendation of my SA, but after noticing that Coach actually contradicts themselves about its use, I returned it. I have a few pebbled leather bags and the website says specifically NOT to use it on pebbled leather. However, if you check the new care cards included with the bags in the store, even the pebbled ones say to use the Coach moisturizer. Another SA said it was because they'd changed the way they made the leather so it was OK for the new ones. I have at least one pebbled bag that's older so that would be at risk.

I usually try to stick with a protectant recommended specifically by the brand, but in this case it just felt wrong. Does anyone know WHY the pebbled leather exclusion exists and if it might truly be OK now? What did they change about their leather? I'm just curious.

I just ordered a jar of Saphir Renovateur to use since it seems to be OK for all leathers. I really don't want to get into having to have a special protectant for every single type of leather I have; that way lies madness. It's had such glowing reviews that I feel more confident with that than the Coach purchase. Hey, if it's good enough for Hermes, I should be fine with it.

I'm happy to have found Apple Garde Rain & Stain via TPF. I'd not have known of it otherwise, and I love that you can use it to protect all types of bags.

Coach moisturizer contains silicone which is bad for leather over time, which is why I don't use it. I've never used Saphir Renovateur. I'd like to hear what you think of it. I use a few products that were originally recommended by docride from the Hermes forum. My favorite is Blackrock Leather n Rich. I especially use it on bags that I'm afraid might be prone to color transfer. Obenauf's LP is great for waterproofing.

The only leathers I'm afraid to use my regular products on are my lambskin bags. I bought a conditioner especially for lambskin but I didn't like it.

It is my understanding that pebbled leather has been "shrunken" to give it that texture and using leather Protectants relaxes the texture making it smooth.
If I am wrong I apologize.
That being said, I have leather conditioned/protected every bag I have ever owned with no ill affect to any. Coach, Dooney, MK, KS, etc.

Would you recommend using either of those products (Blackrock & Obenauf's) on Legacy leather? How about pebbled (like Phoebe handbags)? Thank you!

I've used Blackrocks on several of my Legacy bags. I put it on my sunflower duffle when I first got it because I was afraid of color transfer. I've used it on many pebbled leather bags. I think it would be great for Phoebe. You have to make sure you read the instructions and put it on very sparingly. You don't want to end up with gobs of conditioner in the little valleys between the pebbles. I put it on one area, then immediately wipe it with a paper towel and then buff it.

Thank you! I recently got color-transfer from dark jeans on a yellow Kate Spade handbag. Luckily, it came off with a baby wipe (I tried it out of desperation and it worked!). But it made me realize I need to be more proactive with my light-colored bags. I will definitely try Blackrocks and appreciate your advice!

Is Blackrocks "richer" (more emollient) than other conditioners? I used the Saphir on my Sophia today and noticed a difference. It was only slightly on the dry side but a treatment with Saphir and it felt much nicer. It still seems a bit dry, so I'm wondering if it needs a little extra help.

Also, do you think using Blackrocks on a bag that has been treated with Apple Garde would be overkill or just good sense? I'm paranoid about my Chalk Snoopy Mini Surrey. In the summer I wear a lot of colored denim and I know from using a ton of Color Catchers in the laundry that the dye on those is very unstable. Snoopy's been treated with Apple Garde but I'm wondering if a coat of Blackrocks might also be wise.

I ran across this site that talked about caring for pebbled leather. They mention using a pig bristle brush to buff and get any errant conditioner out of the little valleys.

Color catchers are great. I use them when washing new clothes, towels, etc.
the best way to stop color transfer from your jeans is vinegar in the wash.
Think Easter eggs. The vinegar helps set the dye. I keep a jug next to the washer and I rarely have a transfer problem.
Best of luck.
