How to Carry a Kelly... or Not

I agree with everything that has been said here re: fastening bags with any items in them.

What I want to know is how the bag got that damage but stayed in (what looks like) great shape otherwise. I just can’t imagine carrying a white bag myself... it would look terrible within a few weeks.

Kelly sellier can be a hassle fastening and unfastening. That's the only reason I don't fasten It all the way. I'm sort of embarrassed :Pnow reading the comments about unfastening to show off logo..that is not I am not that person lol. Its easier to just carry the Birkin if show of is the order of the day since the B is more popular and recognizable

I don't think most people who wear a Kelly open do it to show the logo. It's a Kelly; you don't need to see the logo to know that (and you have to get pretty close to read it).
I think people wear Kellys open because that's how a bunch of influencers do it, maybe led by Mira Duma, or because they have been in and out of the bag a lot and t's just easier, or because their phone is inside.
It's your Kelly; wear it any way you like. Wear it as a hat if you want :P

 :giggle:

I must admit, there are many times I don’t fasten my Kellys out of convenience. It seems I am frequently reaching my hand in and out of my bag. Fastening it each time would just be impractical. However, I am careful not to overload or strain my bag. Making the sangles snug helps prevent the bag a bit from tipping forward and unevenly distributing the weight on the handle. I’m not recommending this. It’s just what I do.

I could definitely see myself wearing the Kelly open but honestly it would have nothing to do with the logo. It would have more to do with me being too lazy to completely close it up.
'wear as a hat' almost made me spit out my wine....in that case I'd be so upset with you QF because it is good wine!! :hugs:

I think if the bag would be carried open with weight pulling towards the front, that’t the place where it‘d break or? Also, the bag was in quite nice state overall, no cracks anywhere else, only those points.
But I am no expert on how bags break down (although I should be :P )
Here is the Kelly that I bought and returned due to a tearing where the flap meets the body of the bag. It would appear in the upper left corner of the second photo if they had zoomed in on it. After a year, it is still being sold on their site. It was recently returned, because I got a notice that it was available again.6A85CBDC-01E0-4ADA-A26F-7CE868E55BDD.jpegE481E503-25BB-4C48-8267-07384C5ED5D6.png

And it’s listed as excellent condition, wow.

WOW...this is certainly not "truth in advertising" for a defective item!
This certainly makes me doubt the validity of their appraisal of condition and if anyone actually looks at the items closely for any defects other than a cursory glance at the item. :confused1:

 That it's structurally sound would be a basic for me.

I see that most of these sites value cosmetic condition more.

My grandmother's SM (Sac Mallette) alerted me to all this. I saw the handle was pulled more to one side and asked if it was because of the way it was stored. My aunt said that a porter had put it in an overhead shelf on a train sideways, handle facing forwards (which is correct) but then piled other heavy luggage on top too. At my grandmother's stop, he pulled it out hard, yanking downwards, and that's why the handle is slightly stretched. Knowing that, I'm always careful to check weak spots first. A few minor scratches don't bother me.

I don't baby my bags, and I also believe someone's bag is their own and they can do what they like with it, but it's just silly to carry/use them in a way that they're not designed for. If someone carries their K open (or on their head) fine, but then keep it. But don't mistreat and break your bag, sell, writing 'excellent condition' and expect people to pay top_$.

Excellent points made right here. :hugs:
