I fell in love with Hermes scarves when I was a teenager and Mai Tai had just started her Picture Book blog. I followed it and was amazed by the beautiful scarves and all things Hermes. 12 or so years later, I bought my first Hermes shawl from the boutique last year.

I used to borrower my mom's silk scarves to wear. She has quite the collection of older Gucci and Dior scarves that pre-date my birth.

Figuring out how to style the 90cm scarves without people commenting on "flight attendant" resemblance has been a journey and I can't yet say I'm very good at styling. The 140cm format is much easier for me to just drape and go with it. I want to get better at styling and appreciate the forum as a resource.

I was in my early/mid twenties and I purchased a 90cm at a sample sale with my mother. We don't have a lot in common except for a love for each other and Hermes, so the scarf means quite a lot to me.

Needless to say, I have purchased many more since that day. That sample sale made quite a loyal customer out of me!

Although I do not remember my mom ever wearing an Hermes scarf, she gave me one around the time I graduated from college in 1985. I wore it (along with my bleached punk haircut) and she followed that up with a pink Cles d'Or the following year.

I stopped wearing them for a long time and then started again about when I purchased a Parures de Samourai. Several more have followed since then!

I bought my first scarf for myself at 30, a Promenade au Faubourg. (Still have it - actually got it back from the dry cleaner a couple of weeks ago.) I went in originally to take a look at a Mors et Gourmettes but was unsure of the cw options. Then I saw the Promenade and knew I had to have it.
Previous to that, I had randomly bought my mom a few scarves for her birthday and Mother's Day - which I would sometimes steal and wear borrow. And since then, I have amassed quite a few more for myself.

I was 70 when I bought my first H scarf….old, I know! I started with bags….clutches, to be more specific. I’ve found that I’m most likely to actually wear the mufflers. The silks hang around looking beautiful but bored….

Makes me smile to see this @diane278. I know your wrote this almost 3 years ago. Are you still wearing any scarves?

As for myself, I bought my first H scarf at the age of 50 something. The collection has grown. Some scarves leave if they no longer spark joy or if it's been a while since they've been worn. This has been a big scarf year for me. I think I might be up to 7 or 8 scarves this year, so far.

I inherited my first batch in high school when my Hermes-loving grandma passed away. She would pick one up on every trip abroad —and my grandpa would bring them back for her after his business trips 🥰

After wearing hers all the time throughout my 20s, once I was at a place in my career where I could afford to do so, I decided to follow in her footsteps of picking them up as souvenirs while traveling, starting with my honeymoon! Not sure my husband’s going to follow in my grandpa’s though 🤣
