How old were you when you got your first Cartier piece?

This is all so interesting to read! I’m 21 and went to college at a really affluent private university where seeing Cartier on 18-21 year olds was extremely common. It honestly weirded me out a little when I first got here, I’d never even heard of Cartier or VCA (ended up buying a necklace for myself this year) before college. Like, i’d see first year students in my class with Love/JUC stacks and VCA alhambras. More power to them if their families could afford it but it’s reassuring to read that most people get theirs later in life lol because I thought I was crazy for not having been given a Love for my 16th bday hahahah
It sounds like you are a grounded and well rounded person. Did you go to college on the east coast? I did not own Cartier or Van Cleef until I was in my 30's. I still love Van Cleef and Cartier and love wearing the pieces I have collected over many years. My daughters have gotten into VCA also which I love! I told them I would rather get a VCA piece or a Cartier piece for a gift when I was young if it meant I would not get anything for 2-3 years. My daughters are obsessed with VCA collection. I am happy that I will pass this down to them. That is what I love about Van Cleef. It is timeless and every generation to come will love it.

31, from my DH. First piece was the Pavè Diamond Love ring for my wedding band (small size) in WG.

My DH also gifted me the regular size RG Love Bracelet (no diamonds) for my 32nd birthday a few months later. At the time, I wished it was a WG Love, but I realized he made the right decision as RG/YG complements my skin tone .

I added a RG JUC with Diamonds a couple years after that.

I LOOOVE that you gifted it your yourself .
Me too. I bought mine and all the rest of my Cartier jewelry myself as well. My husband bought me my first Love bangle in 2008, but sold it 7 years later because it broke in half. After my husband passed away, I bought my second Love bangle myself and had my daughter screw it on for me. Same with my small Love, as well.

Lol, thank you it means a lot !! I have a lot to learn but I’d like to think I’m grounded  I did go to school on the east coast. the thing was that my family and I grew up comfortable—my mother owned lux handbags/watches, college tuition was no problem etc—but us as children were never given designer things. If anything 1 or 2 items for me from family friends or friends from summer camp. My dad also literally still wears costco shirts and my mom wears her handbags with shirts from the gap from 11 years ago. My sisters and I got jobs to pay for “extras” like clothes, and we shopped at basic mall shops, nothing crazy. So seeing these people at college was INSANE like it felt like EVERYWHERE I looked.. I so clearly remember being in the dining hall and seeing a girl my age, 18 at the time, in a sweet vca, vintage onyx vca, and a 5 motif bracelet with a love stack. I was so jealous!

I’ve really tried to work myself out of that jealousy and feeling like I’ll never “catch up” because what’s the point. I’ve jokingly brought this up to my mom but she’s been like lol i bought my nice stuff for myself no way in heck am I buying my 21 yr old KID a 7000 dollar bracelet. Which is fair. She said she’d rather help me with a down payment LOL. so I fund my jewelry by myself, saved up a while for my love nevklace and wanting a ring soon !!

22, for my birthday. My parents bought me the small love bracelet. Then I bought the thin love ring for myself, so they can match :)

A year after that for my 23rd birthday, they bought me the classic love bracelet. I am so grateful for this ♥ My brother also bought me the JUC ring

I have no plans to stop lol! I’d really like a JUC bracelet but we’ll see
