how much does hot stamping affect resale value?

The people whose posts I read were not selling their bags. They had bought replicas and wanted them heat stamped so they would look just like the real thing, I guess. They were bragging that their bags were such good fakes that they were easily able to get them stamped.

My point is, if that can happen, a heat stamp does not gaurantee a bag as being authentic.

Why would you believe what fakes collectors post to other fakes fans about their "experience" at LV? They have an obvious agenda of believing and claiming that their purchases are just that "good."

On topic, heat stamping should generally have a negative impact in resale.

I was just trying to educate potential buyers of this reported practice. I have seen comparison videos by friends on here of replica vs real bags that were very difficult to tell apart. SAs are not authenticators, I am not sure as to why you would think it is that far fetched.

If you choose to consider heatstamping proof of authenticity, be my guest. Believe whatever you wish.

Please don't put words into my mouth. I have said nothing of the kind. Nor did I say anything at all about SA's authentication skills. I have myself posted numerous times in this subforum that any authentication requests at LV should be directed to the sales manager, not SA's, because of different level of training.

But this is way off topic concerning value, and again I do think heat stamping does hit resale value.

my rule is never stamp your bag...i am not a fan of the look.
A better alternative is to get a luggage tag and stamp your initials in it. You can add it and remove it whenever you like and migrate it over to a newer bag if you plan to sell.

I think a lot of folks never plan on selling lvs they love, but sometimes you just feel a need to move on and its so wonderful if someone else out there can love our older bags as much as we once did.

I just avoid the stamping.

Personally it would be worth paying the extra to have the bag be truly and fully mine, but like others have said that is easily hide-able so I would probably be able to see past it :)

you could always sell but i think the issue would be even if the bag is in great condition, there won't be as much people willing to pay as much for the heat stamps vs finding another preloved w/ no heat stamp.
I haven't bought anything w/ a heat stamp from someone else but i can tell you i won't even look at the listing if the price is the same as another preloved w/ no heat stamp.
It def has to be a good deal for the buyer in this case. That's why i don't heat stamp my bags but my one wallet i have which i intend on keeping forever. Bag styles change and may not be what you like anymore but wallets usually stay the same.
