how much does hot stamping affect resale value?

Me personally, I would not want a bag with another person's initials. I would say they are asking too much for having their initials on it. I would go at least half or even 60% off. You could get a pre-loved bag without initials for that amount. JMO

Great question I was wondering the same thing. I get me items heat stamped because I had no intention of ever selling. Unfortanty, I don't love all my bags as much as I thought I would and was debating selling but was not sure if I could because I heat stamped them.

You could always sell but I think the issue would be even if the bag is in great condition, there won't be as much people willing to pay as much for the heat stamps vs finding another preloved w/ no heat stamp.
I haven't bought anything w/ a heat stamp from someone else but I can tell you I won't even look at the listing if the price is the same as another preloved w/ no heat stamp.
It def has to be a good deal for the buyer in this case. That's why I don't heat stamp my bags but my one wallet I have which I intend on keeping forever. Bag styles change and may not be what you like anymore but wallets usually stay the same.

You may find someone with your exact initials. I got my agenda that way, but it was a pretty good discount too. For the speedy replacing the chapes is relatively cheap like around $30. So the buyer could do that, or you could pay for it before selling. I LVoe hot stamping, but since I buy and sell alot I wouldn't do it on anything other than a speedy since replacing the chape isn't that costly. Your item will definitely sell for less, but how much really depends more on the condition of the bag.

I would keep on looking, personally. I have a few of my pieces hot stamped (only SLGs, I wouldn't hot stamp a bag) but I know I will never part with those.

If it doesn't bother you, and provided the bag is authentic and is in great condition, I think that seems like a fair price.

My rule is never stamp your bag...I am not a fan of the look.
A better alternative is to get a luggage tag and stamp your initials in it. You can add it and remove it whenever you like and migrate it over to a newer bag if you plan to sell.

I think a lot of folks never plan on selling LVs they love, but sometimes you just feel a need to move on and its so wonderful if someone else out there can love our older bags as much as we once did.

I just avoid the stamping.

If you look at the bright side, hot stamped means it's authentic, guaranteed

Not true. I have read on a replica forum about people taking their replicas in for hot stamping. I have been told over and over that SAs are not necessarily able to authenticate, and that would prove it I guess. Always have your prelvoed bags authenticated.

+1

As is evidenced by my Avatar, I would not hot stamp my bags themselves. I love my luggage tag stamp, and I can take it off whenever I wish.

about 1/2 of my collection is pre-loved so i obviously don't have a problem buying an older bag. but i'd never buy a bag that had someone else's initials on it, that would bug me too much.

I think heat stamped bags should be reasonably discounted. But it's really hard to gage on ebay, because I have seen some really great deals, and some terrible ones. It always amazes me when people pay almost retail for an item they can buy new in store. For me to purchase pre loved, I would want to save quite a bit. And to go the pre loved route with someone else initials, it would have to be an out of this world deal. Or I would rather just save a little more, and buy new from LV.

Really? That's just stupid. If I'm selling a fake bag for the big bucks, why would I take it to LV, risk being found out, so I can get it hot stamped, and sell it for less? It doesn't make any sense to me..

The people whose posts I read were not selling their bags. They had bought replicas and wanted them heat stamped so they would look just like the real thing, I guess. They were bragging that their bags were such good fakes that they were easily able to get them stamped.

My point is, if that can happen, a heat stamp does not gaurantee a bag as being authentic.
