how much does hot stamping affect resale value?

I feel like I have seen excellent condition de bags on eBay without initials...for less! I say keep looking or save for new. With $700, you are almost there!

Really? I feel like resale value for DE is so high! I'm looking at the speedy B 25, btw. Is it common for the 25's (both B and original) to be practically retail?

Personally I would not like it either ...............however the person can also ways replace that one tab. Especially if the bag is in good condition. On a bag that is DE it is easier to have it replaced because there is no patina to worry about.

This is such a great idea! I looked around and it seems that it's only $25? Can anyone verify?

A lot! Would you want to carry around a bag with someone else's initials on them? I don't sell any of my bags but this is a reason why I do not suggest heat stamping bags if your a person that sells your bags after a couple years.

Personally I wouldn't want to carry a bag with someone initial on the outside, especially if I can still buy that bag in store. I make exceptions for LE and discontinued bags which I really like and can't get it anymore in store.

But that is me, I am sure there are others who feel otherwise.

I took the gold paint off heat stamping on a thrift shop bag ages ago with a q-tip and some nail polish remover.

Me too, but with rubbing alcohol. It was on a DA SLG. Heat stamping definitely effects value. I bought it second hand and got a heck of a deal (with the initials in all their gold glory), which is why I decided I could live with it. However, they were inside the item, not outside. Then I removed the film and you could see them unless you looked. I eventually resold it for $100 more than I had paid, and that person still got a heck of a deal, too. It's just a matter of if someone comes along who doesn't mind or knows how to cover it up.

What I DON'T understand are people selling their mon monogram bags with a listing price near retail - I would NEVER carry someone else's initials so boldly on my bag.

Ah I see. Well speedy 25 in general will be high resale because it's so iconic--the 30 is the original bag size, but Audrey Hepburn requested a smaller one and the 25 was born. The speedy b might take longer because it's so much more and the strap is a hit or miss with people. I suggest buying the regular speedy new in store! If a b is your dream bag, though, an excellent condition de online is the way to go...but paying lower than a grand would be a (suspicious) steal!

Completely agree! I tend to shy away from bags that have been hotstamped when I am looking at preloved.

I would buy it if I could make the initials mean something else. For example, a member here just recently bought a wallet or planner heat stamped with "MMH" which stands for "Makes Me Happy".

I'm looking at a pre-loved bag on Ebay, and it has initials heat-stamped onto it in a pretty visible location, but luckily, I can wear the bag with the stamp facing me so it's not a big deal. I always like to keep the resale value in mind so how much less does a bag go for (original is around $1100) if it's been heatstamped? I want to also gauge whether they are asking for a reasonable price (around $700). Thanks!

Also, just to confirm, I'm able to take it to an LV store, even without receipt, and have the gold film removed to make it less obvious?

The bag is the speedy b 25. I saw the ad, that's the starting price, it will go for much more than that on ebay once the bidding starts. You don't need a receipt to have Louis Vuitton replace the chape. I asked a few months ago, the cost was $35. This might also go up with the price increase in Feb.

Also that hotstamp is familiar, I'm pretty sure the owner is on TPF.

This is the speedy b on ebay. I saw it too! I was wondering why it was so low and then I saw the initials. I would not get it unless they were my initials too! lol But, it bothers me, if it doesn't bother you go for it! It is a great deal!!
