How many times have you exchanged something?

Yes, a lot of us make that mistake, we settle for a less-expensive piece and years later go and buy that piece with lots of price increases. Don’t feel guilty, just realize it , and get the piece you want. At least you’re still in the exchange period. I sold off a bunch of stuff, as have many of us on this forum, realizing we were settling instead of buying the piece we wanted. Now go get the Perlee and post a pic when you have!
Aw. Thank you so much :) I definitely will! My collection is beautiful, I don’t have any stones, just all white gold and diamond so far.

I asked my SA about why what I posted here and he said the managers were meant to talk to me about it. This after the SAs we’re talking badly about me to each other because I bought something without telling my SA first is just insane. I do hate how luxury shops SAs are so mean, I’ve had bad experiences because of my age and seemingly that factor causes a lack of respect.

My first exchange was petty, I got store credit and returned something because an SA rolled her eyes at me with my first ever purchases. My 2nd exchange was because I didn’t like how onyx looked on me, 3rd exchange was because the shade of chalcedony looked different at home than in store, 4th was a 1-1 exchange because I preferred the larger size. Hope I don’t get banned, but at this point, if I do it’s probably for the best cause I’ve spent almost 100,000 within a few months lol
For that kind of spend you probably have a bit more leeway but also for that kind of money definitely think carefully about what you want.
On the other hand, getting something and not liking it and then selling ( instead of returning) also isn't pleasant .

I agree, I did ask my SA about the blacklisting and he told me that it’s possible and the managers may have talked to me about it. I wish they would, I’d tell them the reason why I returned the stuff (e.g. negative experience attached to the purchase) and see what they say… The only purchase I did which was because I ended up not liking it was the chalcedony because it was so purplish and made my skin tone look dull.

Being indecisive is an indicator that you are impulse buying and not truly thinking about your long term jewelry goals. A Perlee vs guilloiche are so different that it’s no comparison except the price points. We all have bought less expensive items instead splurging on the most expensive one first. It’s part of the process when you’re new to VCA. Then you look up and calculate I could have gotten xyz. You don’t return all items you simply save and purchase the more expensive one next. 5 returns is a bit excessive for luxury jewelry. A negative experience attached to a purchase isn’t a reason to return. If the merchandise is defective then by all means return but I can understand VCAs position.

That is true, 5 returns is a little excessive and I definitely won’t be making the mistake now I know exactly what I want. I have an issue of overthinking my purchases, I don’t know why I do it but I do. I’m keeping my guiloche pieces, but I feel pressured to keep my necklace now even though it’s causing me such issues to the point that I don’t even wear it. It’s literally just in my closet in the box…

if you only have white gold and diamonds now, have you sold the magic MoP necklace you got after trading up from the smaller size? Curious if they allow repeated exchanges for the same initial purchase.

The magic MoP I gave to my mother as a gift for her birthday last month. So, personally, I only have WG and diamonds right now.

Maybe it’s time to take a break from buying luxury items for a few years, until you learn more about the creations of each brand you’re interested in, watch the trends as well as only buy an item of you still like it a year or so later since you’ve considered adding the item to your collection. As you said, yours only 23 years old and still have a lot of time to grow and curate a nice collection of fine jewelry. I must say, at that age, I only bought fashion jewelry from H&M. They would have let me return as often as I would have liked, without getting flagged. Maybe buy less expensive items/brands until you figured out what you really like, before jumping into buying such expensive items just to regret it two days later again….

I mean, maybe you’re right. I do have the means but maybe it’s not the time. I usually don’t regret my purchases except for one of them which was a chalcedony item. I’d say I’m lucky to own these things at my age knowing your circumstances at 23. I just know I need to return this necklace, there’s no way I can keep it when it keeps getting stuck in my hair, and there’s no way I can be wasteful with that amount of money if it’s not going to be worn. I wear my other pieces and am happy with them but I’m not going to appease a SA just to sell this item on FP at a huge loss and inconvenience

Return it to the store if you’re still within the return period. It’s still a big chunk of money to just having the necklace sitting around or to sell it at a loss. You’re gonna annoy the SA again but maybe it’s better to take a long break from the brand and start over fresh with maybe a new SA and boutique one day, once you know better what you really like.

I agree. I’d rather just return it and go to a different boutique from now on. I know I definitely want the Perlee Clover Bracelet, but I think I’ll just have to go to a different location to get it…

I honestly think it’s wast8mg my time and an SAs time if I am so indecisive that I need to do multiple returns. I simply don’t want to spent that much time shopping. I also think that multiple returns can make it harder for SAs bc other customers don’t want to buy items that are returns. You can switch boutiques and still be flagged. If I were an SA, I would hate to have a client like this, and I mentioned in another thread that an SA can get dinged on a performance review if she has serial return clients. ( This is what I’ve been told by some of my SAs in other premier luxury brands).

ETA: if I had a negative customer service experience, I would not have bought the piece in the first place.

Hm, I guess that’s true. Sometimes it’s being indecisive, sometimes it’s a lack of knowledge, sometimes you fall into FOMO because you don’t want it to sell out so you have the thought of buy it and decide later. That’s usually my issue, when they say “we only have one in stock and to order it’ll take 2-3 months”, so I end up buying something due to FOMO. I know I end up with store credit and it makes me a ‘difficult customer’, but sometimes I feel like I enter the store and leave my brain outside.

Regarding the negative experience, I went ahead and purchased it because it was a special occasion. But I just could not get over the rude SA, the fact that she rolled her eyes at me and said this verbatim “when you walked in, I thought you could be a model but then realized you’re too short” with a snarky face… Still angers me!

when you walked in, I thought you could be a model but then realized you’re too short
I practice selective hearing, so would have simply ignored all the words after “model” and said thank you
But, perhaps it’s bc I have an entire family who regularly triggers me with passive aggressive snark, so the snark of strangers simply rolls off lol . I don’t buy from SAs who I dislike simply bc I have to trust the SA to help me pick out what looks best, and for that, an SA has to know my taste and what is already in my closet or jewelry box. JMO

ETA: I used to be so indecisive that DH would never take me to look at apartments until he narrowed them down to the top three. Twenty five years ago I insisted on buying the first apt we saw bc of the fireplace and the staircase, but the kitchen, bathrooms, and ground floor were a disaster. I think real estate helped cure the indecision, as it’s a bit harder to unwind.
with respect to jewelry, watches, or RTW, I have enough that I don’t purchase unless I love it enough to wear it out of the store, thereby rendering it final sale. That happens to be my final test.
