How many of you have had someone say....

My mom was like that for the longest time...when I was w/ bf (ex now) & came home with a bag she would be like "you bought another purse". She always assumed bf bought it but most the time I did. Now since I'm single (&apparently buying everything myself) I've bought a chanel & burberry scarf & she hasn't said anything but encouraged me to get both. LOL

My mom's best friend babysits for us occassionally. She's very nice, but always has a comment about my bags: how many do you have? what do you do with them all? why do you want more?

The other night she was watching our daughter and when I came home with a pond shoulder bag, she was almost beside herself - "another one? OMG!!"

I actually was able to make the following point to her - had dh spent that money on jewelry (which for some reason is seen as more acceptable to spend big bucks on), she wouldn't bat an eyelash - she certainly wouldn't be screeching, "another necklace!? What are you going to do with all of them?" So why is it different if I'd rather spend that money on a bag rather than jewelry?

Dh actually had to hand it to me that that was a good point (although I know he feels the same way as my mom's best friend).

I don't know why people feel it's acceptable to even mention it to you. Is it any of their business? Is it their place to say anything to you about it? Why do they feel it's okay to make you feel bad about it?

I think what I dislike most about "bag comments" is feeling obliged to explain myself with - "it's last years" - "I got it at the outlet" - "it was on sale!"

I earn my money - I pay my bills - I'M GOING SHOPPING!;)

Here is what I don't understand and maybe it is the nurse in me, but women spend hundreds of bucks on cigarettes a month and no one bats an eye, and then later on in life they spend thousands on health care. A $400 purse that makes happy endorphins is a very good thing.

Well said I'm going to use this one on my mother who by the way has smoked for 40 years!!!!

people say this to me too...i hate when they use a nasty tone too.

but ive noticed that people who say these things are...lets put it this way..a tad bit jealous that you can afford nice purses. because ive noticed that the people that do say these comments usually know about brand names but they use fake*shudder* lol.

The smoking thing is a great point! Plus, at least we have something tangible to show for the money. People who drink a lot or smoke a lot have nothing left over afterward.

I hate it when i get the curt remarks about my purses!

Not that i have to explain myself to them but,

I tell them i dont spend money on lots of clothes because of my illness!

My purses are my escapism to my daily chronic pain & is the only fashion outlet i have!

geez, i don't understand why people seem to feel it's their business to know exactly what we purchase. besides, it's not like we're buying the SAME Coach bag over and over again! who cares if we feel comfortable buying multiple Coach bags. It's for OUR satisfaction, not other peoples'!

OH yes I hate it too! In my case its my sister in law. She's always getting into my business and telling me that it makes no sense to buy such expensive bags! uggh!!!! And then she gives me her opinion on MY bag that I purchased! (of course its always that she doesn't like it)
