How many is enough? What is your H number

Sigh. I am trying to figure this out for myself.

I truly live a simple life. It's just that I have a very expensive taste in beautiful things lol. So I am coming to terms with what I actually need and meet somewhere in the middle in terms of handbags, usage, and just pure whimsy. I am very practical in everyday life.

I'm reading through the post to help me figure what it is I need.

I love your honesty  And I hear you! Need and want are 2 very different things. I truly would only need 1 handbag for the rest of my life to carry my stuff around, but all the rest are wants. I don't know if you or anyone else feels the same. I certainly don't need the 20 plus handbags in my closet.

This is very wise. My life has changed a lot since I started. I love all my bags but many turned out to be beautiful “wants” or occasional bags given my life is now much more simple.

Right now, how many is too many is determined by the closet space. I think I can sneak a couple more large bags. After that, I’ll have to reconsider buying new bags or consider taking over another closet or armoire.

My dilemma currently is how many is too many black bags? I have 1 black K32, 1 B30, 1 medor clutch, 1 cherche midi, 2 jige, and 1 Bolide 31. Yet, I find myself wanting to add a black box K28 sellier, a black Mors de bride bag, and a black alligator B30 or 35. I mostly wear black and navy, so black bags are my most used and the epitome of elegance in my eyes.

I am almost done with my collection
1 B30 (etoupe)for mainly winter use
1 K28 (deep bleu) for day use*
1 K25 (framboise) for summer*
1 J28 (bleu paon) for weekends
1 P18 (capuchin) for Spring/summer/fall
1 TPM (anemone) for small errands

The *Ks are perfect for my day/work use, while the B30 is perfect for meetings - fit a Ulysse and tablet etc.

I’m waiting for a K pochette in dark jewel tones or (black!) or pastels.
(Thinking I should change the black to etain as I am not fond of black bags)
That KP will make my H collection complete. Anything after that would be gravy not a gap filler.

Of course I was also the same person who said I only wanted 1 H bag.

I know H does amazing colors, and it's great to play with other neutrals, but there's nothing like a black bag! I just added another

Ooh, I love black bags. So much so that my B and K are black. Nothing else.

To stick to the topic, 4 is my number that covers ALL my needs (except for formal occasions, which is then served by my (also black) Bottega Veneta Classic Knot. Like a poster above, I also dislike repeat bags. So, here’s my list with its intended use:
  • Small Shoulder / Cross-body : Saut H 25 BF
  • Shoulder / Hand-held / Cross-body: Black Togo K32 BGWH with rouge-de-coeur interior - longer, canvas strap otw
  • Hand-held Tote: Black Togo B35 BPHW with rouge-de-coeur interior - otw
  • Shoulder Tote: Double Sens 45 Clemence Gold / Orange
When the B35 gets to heavy and/or not practical to be used with a walking stick as I get old, I will find a Bolide 30 in box or smooth Barenia or non-Epsom Deep Blue / Blue France / Blue Royal with GHW to use cross-body.

As much as I regret not starting buying Hermes sooner due to the current lack of supply, I am glad that I start when I reach maturity in my style: I know what works and I know my needs. 4 is more than enough me to cover all my basis. Experimenting with H would have been a nightmare for me.

I currently have 7 H bags; 1B25, 2 B30s, 2 C24s, 1 K32 sellier and 1 K28 sellier. Lately i feel like I am more of a Birkin girl and looking to let go of 1 B30 (this is a bit half-hearted) and K32 sellier to get another B25 in grey color....

There's always a "temptation" to add K25 sellier or C18 but i feel i am more than content for now as I live through a different phase of life.

I have 15 and I seem to be sticking. I've never made a mistake yet, but sometimes I've taken years to discover (Evie) and sometimes missed out with being 'coy' (Alligator Plume 32 in either Sanguine or whatever that brown was SS14).

I don't break them up into QBs and UTR coz personally that's a distinctions for SA's Excel spreadsheets, SM's sales targets/buying power in Paris, not for my wardrobe.

Should have been 16. There was an opportunity to buy my HG and exotic 'fairy-on-top-of-the-H-Christmas tree' just after C-19 lockdown 2020, but I didn't buy it! I think I freaked at the media-wind-up of the prospect of Doomsday Armageddon :crybaby:
