Good grief, I feel far less guilty about the number of coats I own after reading this thread. One way I make myself feel better is donating at least 5 or 6 (or more) in the fall. (Also makes room for new ones lol) It is hard to part with some you really love but never wear. Lifestyle changes are a big factor.
I kept accumulating a lot of coats throughout my life and I simply didn't wear most of them. So now I have most of my collection for sale. I'd like to buy 1 Gucci and 1 Max Mara coat later this year, which I've been eyeing for a little over a year and have been gradually saving up money for both. However, I have given the red to buying coats that I've seen on other women (on whom the coats looked absolutely divine) and I've found my heart ones that I feel comfortable, attractive and are simply me 
.
So now I have:
1 Burberry Trench coat
1 Gucci Trench coat
2 Max Mara S wool coats

I am not sure if you are counting jackets and blazers. If so, I have 42. I know this because I use a closet app and it organizes everything for me. If it is just coats then just 1. I live in an environment where it gets really cold maybe a week at most. When that happens the entire city shuts down so I am indoors most of the time.
During July I bought 3 more so currently at 14 coats and jackets total (including suit jackets).
In 2025 I May have a sort out and replace some, although I Did donate a shearling coat which wasn’t worn out and have some regrets, so maybe won’t be so hasty, as it’s going to be very costly to replace..

you must have lots of closet space
being in a warm climate, I just have my leather jacket, two raincoats and one heavy wool coat which I never wear

I have one coat closet. The closet in our bedroom is shared by both of us but I'd say I take up about 75% of the space. My husband has a coat closet in our spare bedroom/office and there's also another closet downstairs that has mostly empty boxes-but I also keep my really heavy coats there in the summer so that my other coat closet is not so overstuffed. LOLyou must have lots of closet space

I just did a recount...15 coats and heavy fall/winter jackets. I'm relieved it wasn't more than that. That's a good number.
As above my total is 14, but I’ve just been through them all, as summer is finally at an end, and actually 11 are jackets(5 leather, 1 shearling, 1 denim), some blazers..
Only 3 are actually winter coats.
At the end of the winter I will probably not keep some of them as the following winter (2025), I’m planning a new coat, and suit, and possibly a new biker jacket, and am running out of closet space, but for now they stay!

Dang, 5 leather ones? The most I have ever heard owned by a person is 4. Are any of them leather blazers? Those look badass, like in the late 1990s action movies.
Not at the moment-when I lived in Paris I had a leather blazer by Packham boutique , sadly I don’t have it any more, although I would buy another one.
I love leather jackets -I had my first one at 16, 3 are bespoke, I hope I can wear them for decades to come and collect more!
