How do you fund your Hermes addiction?

Actually, I don't mind at all.

There is no obligation to answer, obviously - although this is a public forum, and the question is completely par for course (whether some people find it rude or not).

The thread link I posted above is really great. I have personally gotten a lot of wonderful tips, and I've saved thousands and thousands of dollars in other areas of my life - which have translated into the most fabulous bags.

I am *more* than happy to share those tips with others who, like me, don't have thousands of dollars lying around to blow on H.

I don't mind it either as long as they don't make unnecessary comments later like, "OMG, that can be a downpayment for a car/house!" I hate that. It's like an indirect remark that they spend money better than you.

I don't have an H bag yet. That happened with my LVs.

But it is a valid question for a technically unnecessary item. I wonder to this day how people can afford some of the luxury items they have. It's just the other side of the equation about choosing quality over quantity. And if you don't have shed-loads of cash you have to learn how to save it!

Perhaps the recent spade of questions like this has to do with the "credit crunch" and all the media hype surrounding it. People, well-to-do people even, are now noticing that a) basic items are getting more expensive and 2) there is an general financial uneasiness in the air. When someone then clicks on this forum, it does seem to be a bit removed from the reality of what is going on globally in the financial world.
I think this is it cf:yes: and piaffe *waves*;)
There are many useful tips given on tpf as to how get your H (whether it's new or new-to-you), that is if you relly need someone's advice on such personal matter, which can probably be applied to various types of income. Everyone does it his/her own way. But basically I can say if there's a will there's a way. Always.

Hmm, recently some strangers come up to me and commented on how nice my Birkin is. Quite surprised cos it's just a normal togo, but I suppose not many in my area / country carry Birkins around.

But it gets me a bit uncomfy when they ask how much it is .... then go "Orh .... isn't it like VERY expensive?" I normally shrug and say "Well, it's worth it". What else can I say ?? :yahoo:

I have spent my life learning, earning, saving, finding money and time to be charitable with for causes I believe in; taking care of my family, and friends.

Now that I've found a balance, and my priorities are in order, H falls somewhere behind that. Seed time, money, and investments I made as a young adult (not that I don't still consider myself that!) make it easier for my DH and I to include a little bit of collecting in our lives, and I am proud of myself... money I could have spent on Gucci or Prada years ago has been saved, invested, and now equals the kind of money I can save up for an H bag!

I built up my life, savings, and priorities before I could even consider H. I wasn't born rich, and I'm not now. But I've always looked ahead... and I'm fortunate that H was something I could look forward to. Everyone needs something to dream about :girlsigh:

H makes them? Where have I been?
