How do you dress when you buy a new handbag?

I dress however I want to buy a bag. If I'm not treated appropriately, there's always someplace else to buy the bag.

Couldn't agree more.

I sometimes feel intimidated by perfectly polished and groomed SA's (and other women for that matter!) but I like to remind myself, I work full time, have a toddler and my husband works away Mon-Fri so if I can't be bothered to put on a full face of makeup & some fancy clothes to go shopping, that's actually ok :p

I experience a small difference in hospitality at the LV store when I do wear one of my LV bags. The first time i was treated as a "once in a lifetime customer", it was my very first LV purchase (speedy 30 in monogram). The SA was friendly and helpfull but I felt she judged me on my outfit, but hey, I was 7 months pregnant at the time and didn't look my best.... Still I didn't receive the brown storage box, just the dustbag. At the time I was unaware that LV bags always come with this. 2nd time I did dress up more and was given a royal treatment, complete with refreshments and a brand new catalogue to take home with me. It felt so nice and I will never forget that particular SA, the fact that I bought the Alma Vernis and the Delightfull might have something to do with it. Today I went for my 3rd purchase of LV and this SA was also extremely helpfull and friendly. I didn't get a refreshment but still very happy with the overall treatment. I was dressed "smart casual" and even got complimented on how the new bag (Noe in monogram and some accessoires) matched my style.
So yes, I do sence a small difference in treatment on how you're dressed, especially at LV, at least in Europe, where I live.

This reminds me of the Gladwell book where he asks a salesman why he always does so well, what his tricks are, and the guy just says he always treats everyone as if they could be a serious sale no matter what they look like. It just seems like bad business to try to judge who has more money by looks.

I dress the same way I do when I shop in town or when meeting friends (ie pretty well but not overly so). I don't do it to get better treatment though, I do it mainly so I can see how the bag will look on me with my dressier outfits since I'm hardly going to carry a nice purse while in grocery garb anyway.

This will sound horrible but if I am window shopping, I dress to the nines. Louboutin heels, Prada, YSL, Givenchy bag, Burberry trench, diamond earrings, bracelet, necklace....probably somewhat overboard. I do it just to tease them b/c it is the same b***ches that are tripping over themselves to talk to me who ignore me when I am wearing yoga pants and Uggs. When I actually intend to buy, it is very low key weekend wear or work out gear. I like to go against the grain.

Today I was wearing a Lululemon pull over, yoga paints and snow and salt stained Uggs and dropped my CC for a pair of Manolos without giving it a second thought. The people that still talk to me and greet me deserve my business, those that don't, won't get it.
ur too funny and i love it

For my last 4 out of 5 purses, probably pyjamas. I bought them online. For the 5th, Lululemon yoga pants, I'm sure, as I had just landed in NYC and headed straight over to the Celine boutique on Madison.

I have no time for those who judge me on how I dress on MY weekend when I am spending MY money to make an expensive purchase. The SAs that I now consider "my" SAs, and deal with on a regular basis, are used to me looking super casual (almost homeless, when in my ripped up jeans!) even while carrying my birkin or spending $7k at Chanel. If you look down your nose at me, someone else will get the sale. It is not my job to convince you that I am worthy. I am the client that will remember to wish you happy birthday and Merry Christmas and send you a thank you gift when you have gone above and beyond. Don't judge me by my yoga pants! :-)

I generally buy pre-loved bags online, so I can wear my pj's and slippers if I want to when I go bag shopping, and I often do! On the rare occasion that I buy a bag at a physical store, I wear whatever I feel like wearing. I'm a casual person and I find that me dressing up just to go shopping would feel pretentious and unnatural. Sometimes I'm wearing track pants and running shoes, and other times it's jeans and a sweater with loafers. It just depends on what else I'm doing that day. Regardless, though, I always make sure what I'm wearing is comfortable. I'm too picky and spend too much time mulling over purchases to wear something like tight clothes or heels while shopping.

Also, I just want to point out that I don't shop in stores like LV, Dior, Chanel, etc. as my budget doesn't allow me to buy such high end bags retail, but even if I did, I would still wear whatever I like and expect to be treated equally to someone wearing a designer dress and Louboutins. If I get rude sales people, they lose my sale and I leave, point blank period. Everyone deserves to be treated the same way no matter how they look or what they wear.

More often than not, I look like this - minus the heels. I was just being silly with this picture, showing how the heels matched my fave nascar t-shirt.
I don't want SA attention, so I usually wear very low-key clothes when purposely shopping for something expensive.
Then again, sometimes I spice it up a little. It really depends on what kind of mood I am in.
The dead give-away, though, is when they look at the bag I am carrying, which is always an expensive one. They can tell.

I actually really love those shoes with that outfit. Talk about a touch of flare. ;)

I was thinking about this because I see a lot of girls and women get dressed to the nines when they go shopping...and that's fine for them, but for me, I feel more comfortable wearing jeans and casual clothes. Plus, I get kind of a kick wearing my usual weekend baja and jeans, walking into a "premier" store, and then shocking the heck out of (very often) snooty salespeople with my knowledge about the brand and differences in lines of handbags. The best is when I'm like, "Ok, let's do it" and I buy the bag. I think I get a kick out of it because I really don't like when people judge me or my buying ability based on what I'm wearing. All of that said, I'm thankful that there are lots of high-end stores (like Dior!) that treat people so kindly no matter what they're wearing.

They are always lovely at Dior. :D

LOL! I thought it was super cute. :)
The shoes didn't fit right, so I wasn't able to keep them. So cute, though!

This pic, no one would ever know I had on $2700 worth of accessories. No logos. (well, a very small "Marc Jacobs Made in Italy" imprint on that little leather tab thing)
This is just me. I'm either decked out or like this. I don't do well with an in-between look.

I usually would dress smartly which is basically my usual wardrobe. I wouldn't really make any effort to dress to the nines to go buy a bag...the more unnoticeable I am, the less I'll be bothered by the SA's. I prefer to approach the SA's when I do see something I like rather than the other way around. Also, if I'm serious, I would go with the intention of seeing a specific bag/style and I would go in with requests. I find that most SA's are nice if you ask knowledgeable questions about the brand itself.

I always dressup casual clothes something that I'm comfortable enough to move and walk in the mall..When I go to the mall I always wear flat shoes since I'm not a high heeled person kinda gal:) But I dress up cute/classy I believe that wether you dress up very up tight or just a casual It's always the confidence will shine through.... The very first time I went to Nieman Marcus and looking like very casual no one even greeted me but It's ok coz everyone is wearing their lame uniform that they made them look like 10years older anyway:)lol...I don't change the way I dress up to impress the SA...All I know for sure when I go shopping is I'm not the one who is behind the counter:)
