How do you dress when you buy a new handbag?

I don't dress up to go shopping. I need to be comfortable and able to change quickly to try on clothes.

So jeans, nice tee/blouse, cardigan. I'm always carrying my Speedy B when I shop because it carries a water bottle and any small items I happen to buy (don't want to accidentally lose a small purchase, I've almost left sephora purchases at the register at bloomies. Lol).

I usually like to be left alone to browse, but I can make eye contact and smile at an SA to let them know I now need assistance. Usually that gets the response and help I need at any boutique. If it doesn't, my money goes elsewhere. I keep it simple. Shopping should be fun, and I won't entertain anyone who won't let me have my fun.

Alllllll my life nobody has helped me. I was trying to buy the new iMac and nobody would help me. Also when I went to go buy my kids three iPads! Every time I buy furniture at Pottery Barn. Ok, back to purses. Every store I go to, it always happens. Nobody helps me at Macy's, Michael Kors, Nordstrom. I must look like a young scrub with no money! They're always shocked that I buy something. The woman at Macy's asked me three times if I really wanted the bag (red mini hamilton). No respect at all. That's why I do all of my research before I purchase something. I walk in, grab it, and check out.

I usually dress up unless I'm hanging out with my best friends. People that don't respect you don't need a job in customer service.
I can answer why no one has helped you ... because they are jealous! LOL! You are beautiful!!!!!!!!!!
I don't dress like this in public, but thought it was funny. My mother got me the shirt. This is probably how people see me.
Yes, that is funny. Such a cute pic. I love it!
That's in a perfect world, not the one we're living in .. Unfortunately! I didn't talk about flashing car keys or talking about income, I only talked about looking presentable (I'm only explaining this because you quoted me).
Love both your sophisticated and dressed down looks.
This world is so imperfect it's a shame. I don't know what's wrong with people.

Thank you!

I like both looks. In fact, I think the second look is pretty classy! :smile1:
Thanks! That bag looks huge on me when I look at the pic.
Nascar fan you look like a million bucks all the time! Also those yellow and black shoes from your very first post, amazing!!

You do look really young, but not at all in a scrub kind of way! Love your second "how they see me" pic, that mini Selma gets me everytime so pretty!
I loved those shoes but they hurt my feet so I didn't keep them.

I try to dress respectfully. It could be a tee shirt and jeans, as long as it looks nice. I figure, when I am in a store, my visual presence can help or hurt their business, and I want to be helpful. But again, jeans and tees are perfectly acceptable attire in luxury stores here.

A long time ago on a planet far far away, otherwise known as the '60's, my mother insisted we dressed up to go to town. I hated it, wanted to "hippy out'. Then came the disco 70's, the new wave 80's and i loved dressing in all these looks whenever I went anywhere. And in fashion merchandising class, emphasis was given on dressing 'nicely' when shopping. So, long story short, I always dress nice, most likely trendy, whenever I'm out, esp. shopping.

Thank you! I adore it, I fit so much in it compared to my mini Hamilton.

I have mixed feelings about this. Dressed casually and dressed sloppy are different things. I would find it difficult to take someone seriously if they appeared to be sloppy. However, always being kind and respectful is necessary.
I dress casually in jeans, T-shirt, maybe a scarf, tidy hair and natural make/up.

This! One can definitely still look respectable when wearing casual wear.

I shop on line mostly but when do venture out, it's clean tailored casual clothes. Nothing fancy. But I have, like others who posted, had a very gushy reaction from SAs at shops when they recognize my bag. Which I think is just terrible.

Which bag might I ask?:smile1:

My Hermes Bolide was the worst. I stepped into an LV boutique and it was busy and the SAs were pulling bags for other customers. I stood patiently waiting and (i am assuming it was the bag) then a SA asked me if my bag was Hermes. And I nodded and smiled and then the SA asked me what I wanted to see and I said 'Oh this person was before me' and another SA said, 'That's ok, you go' and BOTH helped me. I was stunned. I said 'Help her' (the other person first) and went to look at something else.

Oh wow! :smile1:

I wear jeans and tees (not designer) to shop and have never had a problem. I will carry a bag or wallet of the brand I'm planning to buy if I already have one (LV, Coach, etc.) and I have noticed I get slightly quicker recognition or more of a welcome if I'm obviously a repeat customer.

I'm a casual dresser- jeans, sweaters, tees, casual blazers from Zara, etc. I don't feel the need to get more dressed up just to go shopping. If they're going to judge me, then whatever. People in my area don't really dress up to go shopping anyways. As long as I don't look dirty or frumpy, I'm fine with stepping out in casual wear.

I've been treated differently in various stores, and I don't think it's necessarily based on how I'm dressed. I've gone into my local LV in casual clothes but with my Kelly and was basically ignored and the SA was very short with me when I was asking questions. I've gone into another LV, casually dressed but with a Birkin and was not treated differently than any other customer. I've gone into Hermes always casually dressed- Madison was snobby, KOP and Paris were very kind and helpful.
