How do you dress when you buy a new handbag?

I was thinking about this because I see a lot of girls and women get dressed to the nines when they go shopping...and that's fine for them, but for me, I feel more comfortable wearing jeans and casual clothes. Plus, I get kind of a kick wearing my usual weekend baja and jeans, walking into a "premier" store, and then shocking the heck out of (very often) snooty salespeople with my knowledge about the brand and differences in lines of handbags. The best is when I'm like, "Ok, let's do it" and I buy the bag. I think I get a kick out of it because I really don't like when people judge me or my buying ability based on what I'm wearing. All of that said, I'm thankful that there are lots of high-end stores (like Dior!) that treat people so kindly no matter what they're wearing.

The only place I really buy handbags from in person is right beside my work, so I am mostly wearing my work clothes (general office apparel) but I don't plan what I am wearing due to whether or not I will be buying a handbag. If I go bag shopping any other time though, its jeans and tees :)

I don't plan either.

If I go after meeting friends or before going 'out' I'll be a bit more dressed-up but sometimes it's after work, so it'll be whatever I could find in the early morning dark :D

More often than not, I look like this - minus the heels. I was just being silly with this picture, showing how the heels matched my fave nascar t-shirt.
I don't want SA attention, so I usually wear very low-key clothes when purposely shopping for something expensive.
Then again, sometimes I spice it up a little. It really depends on what kind of mood I am in.
The dead give-away, though, is when they look at the bag I am carrying, which is always an expensive one. They can tell.

In Southwest Florida where it is perpetually summer, flip flops, shorts and a tank always accompanies any bag that I pick out of my closet. People treat me nicer when they see me with a nice bag....or wait....maybe it is the smile on my face.

 I like to dress up when I go shopping for clothes, handbags, cosmetics etc.. Because I like to get a good service! Also it's a part of my lifestyle .. I work in the luxury industry too (I'm an interior architect) and I appreciate clients who make the effort to dress well and look presentable rather than jeans and flip-flops! But I keep that to myself it's unprofessional to give anyone a snooty attitude that's just unacceptable! But wether we like it or not how you present yourself to the world is really important!

Oooooo... And which Dior is this, if I might ask? Would you have a photo of it on hand?:p

It is my Diorissimo pochette - has the monogram all over it as well as a nice big logo you can't miss ;) I bought it back in 2005 and unfortunately they are not being sold anymore (as far as I know). See attached picture!

I may well be wearing jeans, a hoodie and some Adidas Superstars. I rarely dress up for anything - although I do love it but the time and effort is too much :p - but I always carry a pretty or quirky bag. My Mulberries aren't the flashy ones like Alexa or Bays so many don't recognize them as designer anyway. I've gotten the trashy treatment at a second hand boutique in Stockholm (and decided I don't need the Mulberry I was about to buy) but the lady at the Mulberry shop at NK was super nice to me. If I had had the money to buy new, I would've bought the bag from her. And I was dressed as described in the beginning of my post. So snotty attitude WILL make you lose a sale with me...I'm pretty mercyless when it comes to bad customer service, I've trained enough people to know what's right and what's wrong and how there are no excuses for lousy attitude. You can never know who it is asking for your help, wearing old tennis shoes and a slightly worse-for-wear hoodie...

Thanks, everyone, for your responses! :) I appreciate it. It's interesting to me to hear how/what people think before heading out to shop. I definitely agree with the idea that one shouldn't judge another based on looks. My husband's aunt is quite wealthy and usually wears casual clothes for comfort. If she's treated rudely, she just walks out and that store has lost a sale without even knowing what she could have been capable of buying. ...I do dress very simply or casually, but my handbags are nice and that does usually "give me away," but I will also walk out if I'm being ignored/etc. I agree that how you present yourself matters, but I also think that respect and kindness for all people matter more, regardless of what people have chosen to wear. Thanks again for all of your thoughtful comments.

I only ever buy Chanel or LV in stores here. Everything else is bought online usually from overseas... So for those purchases more often than not, Pjs. For in store purchases at LV etc, jeans and a tshirt. Nothing special.

Sometimes, I'm dressed very casually and other times, I am dressed up. It really depends on where I was coming from (work, etc.). SAs usually don't pay attention to me, no matter how I am dressed, most likely because I look young. I don't mind this though; I like browsing on my own and then asking for help when I need it. On the other hand, they always flock to my mother, who is never, ever dressed up and is always wearing jeans and a t-shirt.
