I am glad to read all of these possible "cures" for bag odors.
I had a bottle of water in my purse and it leaked. I cleaned up the mess and didn't think much of it, until later I opened up my da cles and was hit with a very musty odor. I took everything out, buried all the cards in baking soda, poured baking soda in the cles, let it all sit overnight, the cles much longer and it did not help. I was worried to wash the cards with soap and water as I didn't want to wreck the magnetic strips on them or wash off any signatures.
Anyway, I normally carry quite a few cards in my cles, transferred those to my wallet, which then took on some of that odor, which has since disappeared after I put the cards in my de cles. The odor has disappeared from the plastic cards. It was most strong on a paper insurance card I had in there and I've just ditched that. I have a second one in my glove box, so no big deal.
My poor da cles...I let it sit wide open for a long time after I took the baking soda out of it...it still smelled awful. I have been periodically spraying it with perfume on the inside.
I smell it every now and then and spritz the inside in whatever area still smells bad...
I don't want to buy another da cles, not even sure how easy it may or may not be to get one now anyway. I'll try sitting it outside in the sun, open and let it air out.
Normally I like the da for summer, but this year, de is what I am using...
I have never had a water bottle leak in my handbags before. I guess the water then soaked through the fabric on the zipper, got inside, soaked that one paper card and because the cles was zipped up, it ended up smelling musty after a very short time.
