How do I get this musty smell out of my LV bag ?

Today she said the musty odor was gone. She left it outside overnight on her screened in covered porch in the cold weather. Maybe it just needed to be opened and aired out versus .

Cold air wouldn’t have cured it.

Ask her how it’s doing once it’s back in a normal temperature environment.

Hi guys,

So i wanted to share my recent experience “restoring” a vintage bag that i bought. It was in pretty good condition except for 2 tiny stain spots in the inside lining, the hardware was oxidized here and there and an old musty smell...
So i started by cleaning the bag with wipes (no alcohol or perfume) also cleaned the vachetta parts with wipes. To take away the tiny stain spots inside i used woolite insta clean (pet stain destroyers) using a q-tip.
Once this was dry, I put a herbal pouch my mother in law gave me with a pleasant smell and put it inside (i let it sit for 2 days).
After the 2 days i cleaned the straps again with wipes and on the outside canvas i applied “mothers” which is a cleaner and conditioner for vinyl and leather.
The next day the musty smell was pretty much gone and the day after just to be sure i applied menguiars odor neutralizer inside since the word out is that this works very well.
The brass hardware i cleaned with brasso and i cant believe this bag looks brand new!
Anyhow, sorry for the long post, i wanted to share these tips that worked on my bag so that hopefully they will help someone out there.

yours in fashion!

Thanks for your story. Can you show a pic?
Sure! Here are the comparison pictures (left is before and right is after). The straps were in really good shape before (i just cleaned them with wipes so I didnt take a before and after - Cleaning them was more for the purpose of getting rid of the smell it had).

I just purchased one from Hong Kong and it smells horribly musty. I'm on the verge of sending it back after trying "fridge-it", which the seller suggested. Will this smell ever come out? It's not only the inside but OUTSIDE too!
Old thread I know. Venting though. I just got a vintage Saumur 35. I have wanted it for a while now. The inside smells fine, its the canvas that is really moldy smelling. The seller did not reveal the smell in her listing, saying it had none. I am asthmatic and woke up with a runny nose and congestion in my chest. Not what I want to have during covid! I have been sheltering in place for 7 months now to prevent issues. Logically it should be returned. I've been looking for a Saumur in good condition. :(

I know this is an old thread but after a year+ of not using my keepall (4 yo bought new) due to covid, I notice a strong musty smell. We have central AC and I kept it in my closet stuffed with a new pillow. Ugh!! I will try some pure sunlight. I guess it can just happen....

Thanks - good thought!

I put it out in the sun today and it warmed up and slumped into a puddle. So I turned it outside out (eek!).It was pretty easy once the sun warmed it....but I am still nervous!!!

Hopefully it comes out! There are some videos on You Tube on how to remove smells. Charcoal packs, baking soda, etc. I hope this works for you and I'm interested to see how it turns out!

It needs fresh air. Sunlight seems a brilliant idea.
