How do H wallets hold up with daily use?

Jumping onto this thread for a quick question. I recently bought the Bearn compact in rose confetti and sesame verso. I find that the leather is VERY stiff and have to wrestle to get the cards out... does anyone else have this experience? (in either the compact or long wallet) Does it get better over time?

Not sure which leather this is, may look like an epsom? But in any case, they all loosen up over time. I have Kelly, Bearn mini and silkin compact in epsom, Bearn in Mysore, dogon duo in Togo, and a mc2 card holder (don’t recall the name) in evercolor, they all got loose overtime. I think you will find most of people fret over how relax they get and wish they’d have your “problem“

I have SLG in epsom, Mysore, evercolor and Togo and find they don’t stay pristine (would be too much to ask for), and definitely wear out more than bags. Their card slots get loosen up and colors come off at spots. But the leather conditions remain excellent (no worn corners nor scratches)! They look used for sure, but perhaps the looks can be restored at spa with some repainting, which I haven’t tried.

Epsom is my choice for SLGs. Wears like iron, looks new after extended use. Does loosen up a bit -- my calvi needs several cards in each side and they still come out easily. Otherwise they fall out.

Personally, I think mysore is a mistake for SLGs. It gets soft, it can pick up dirt and lose some of its shape, making it look older than it is.

For compact wallets, I have found Gucci to be a cheap thrill. Lots of interesting colors and patterns and so very cheap compared with H.

(I have an epi leather LV SLG that I have used as a checkbook cover for like 15 years and it still looks great.)

Thanks so much for the perspective! Yes my Bearn compact is in Epsom. Definitely stiffer than the chevre or goatskin mysore versions. At the moment my cards literally get stuck to the point that i have to wiggle the cards or forcefully pull to get them out. Hopefully like you say, the card slots will soften over time.

This has been exactly my experience with Mysore and Epsom for SLGs. My chèvre Kelly wallet popped a stitch on a corner and shows smoothed rub marks that age it significantly. My biggest complaint is that my cards always seem to get stuck inside the slots no matter what. Dirt usually comes off with a baby wipe, but it's still an unforgiving leather in medium to lighter colors. Meanwhile, Epsom looks great unless it gets scratched, which I've somehow avoided. I don't love the look, but I respect its utility.

Although I don't own any Epi, I totally agree about how it wears over decades. My aunt carries pieces I remember from my childhood (25+ years ago) that look pristine. It's a bulletproof leather.

How have you found the wear of epsom vs evercolour? I'm thinking of getting the city zippe cardholder but am not sure which leather would be better. TIA!

What about crocodile wallets? I am considering purchasing a croc Bearn hoping it would hold up...
Or ostrich? I have had two Prada ostrich wallets that have held up beautifully.
I would pick ostrich over crocodile for durability personally.
They're not Hermes but I have inherited a couple of Crocodile bags and wallets from my mother, and over time they can dry out and if being used a lot the scales can lift.
I would not buy a wallet in Crocodile if you want to use it daily.
but thats just my opinion

I have a croco Bearn and it does not hold enough for me. The only H wallet that holds all my stuff is an Azap and the stitching came loose at the corners. You may not put as many things in your wallet as I.

Both leathers look similar on wear, but evercolor gets softer for sure than epsom. In general, if you want a more structure look, then go with epsom. Bur for the city zippe cardholder, evercolor would do fine too.
