How did you obtain your Birkin?

I've done both ordering and stalking. I wanted a Kelly first, very badly, although there was a little ulterior motive (to eventually get the Birkin). I was very nice to the SA and told her how excited I was to get the Kelly. I called back after it arrived to thank her again, and she offered me the chance to order "a bag that was on my list". I told her I wanted a blue jean togo, and she said that she'd order one for me, but it may take 2 years. 2 months later, she called and said that another customer ordered a blue jean clemence, but was unable to buy it at that time, and did I want it? I practically screamed yes! In those 2 months, I had purchased a couple of pairs of shoes, and to date, have spent so much on shoes/accessories/clothes/other bags. They now will pretty much try to get me whatever I want, which feels great!

I got my havane when I just walked into my store, and I purchased it within 5 seconds!

most of you sounded easy to get your hands on a Birkin, only few months wait. However, I heard so many stories that customers (non celebrities) has to wait for years to get a Birkin. The wait list is now even closed in London Hermes. Can someon please confirm again how long does it take to get a 30cam togo Birkin, Black with platinum hardware in Europe, Asaia or USA. Many Thanks.

Ok, this is a really sick confession. I own 3. A red, a brown and a lime JPG version. Not to mention a blue jean kelly. The first one, took about a year on the waiting list. The second...about 9 months, and the lime green...I wasn't even on a wait list. The SA just called, and asked if I'd like to take a look at it. Ask nicely to be put on the list, with the size and colors that you would like (be certain to be specific about the hardware, if it matters to you.) Then, just be patient (and save your pennies!)

Londoner, you do have a chance of getting a Birkin if you go to one of the smaller shops in London e.g. Harrods or Royal Exchange. If you tell them what you are after, they might just take your details and give you a call if they have a cancellation on an order (the waitlist is closed in the sense that they won't take any new orders). But the prices are cheaper in Europe so if you are travelling keep an eye out.

Is it true? That's really exciting. I was in the Royal Exchange store the other day as I live and work near there, and I did express that I would love a Rouge Vif and a Blue Jean Birkin. I passed her my name card as well, so that she can call me when orders open. Fingers crossed that something comes through....though she did mention that when a Birkin comes in, it is given to people that have waited months and months for it.

I found it helpful to let people on the boards I am on know what I wanted. One day, a member emailed me and asked if I wanted to buy hers. Naturally, I jumped at it.
At the same time, I went the "normal" route of going to the boutique, talking to the SAs, etc. Long story short, my "order" was accepted at the last podium and I should get my second birkin before the end of the year. Some time ago, my boutique also called me when they had a bag someone declined, but it wasn't my dream bag so I also declined it. So I think if I wasn't picky, I might have gotten a bag from them before now.

I live in MN where there are no Hermes. So, I have yet to see or touch Hermes leather. I have the OK to buy a Birkin but don't want to do it online having never seen one before.

However, I am going to Hawaii in May and have heard that they have Brikins in store more often than other stores. Is that true?

I heard all the stories, you all wrote too. My dream for a Birkin started about 10 years ago. Have a look to my Collage pict at my name. All the pictures I found in the magazine were put together the time waiting for a miracle. Then the Hermes Store opened in Vienna and I wanted to now how it really is with that stories. At the same time the first print campagne for the Shoulder B started. And this was the moment I knew I want the JPG Shoulder Birkin in Red with Palladium. The Storemanager told me that it might take a wile 'cause he didn't hear about the color for the next seasons, but they will contact me if that ever happens. In the waiting time they called me about 3-4 times if I wanted another color or the classic Birkin. But I only wanted a red/palladium and the final call was in November 2006. I had two days time to decide (of couse I didn't need it). And there she was. After 18 month BUT the one I wanted. :wlae:

I live in Madison, WI where there's no H store around. I do really want to have a Birkin, but I don't know what to do. From other posts, it seems that I should go to H store and build good communication with SA which I can't. The nearest H store is 3 hours from my home. Are there any suggestion?

Wow, 3 birkins in 4 months? all from paris? One question on my mind is how does the special order work in Paris store? Can you just go there and place an order or the list opens at certain time?

Yes, definitely check the store at the Ala Moana Shopping center. You never know what they might have in stock. The SA I work with and love is Jaime. She's super nice and very knowledgable!

I am also interested about the special order in Paris store. Please tell us more Chocolat Chaud.

hi Londoner
there is no doubt it is uneasy to get a birkin, especially when you dont have the chance to see, touch and learn more bout it!
personally i'm not famialiar with the London store, but a friend of mine who lives in London told that you would be able to buy a Birkin once you have spent like 3000 pounds worth of other products at one time, and the sales would then offer you to get a birkin (also depends on stock avaliability at that moment), my friend got an orange 35 right away!
