Honest opinion - Is this a classic Tiffany piece?

I like this piece and saw a business woman wearing a similar (toggle with heart tag) under her open collar and it looked really nice. However, it's more of a statement type and I don't think will be very versatile and suitable for everyday wear.

The bean, DBTY or open heart on the other hand, can be worn whenever the occasion and they feel more classic to me. Funny all three collections are by Elsa Peretti :D Such a good thing they renewed the contract.

In any case, don't feel so much pressure about buying a classic piece - what you enjoy is important. There'd be no point in buying a dainty 'classic' piece if you prefer something more eye catching. It'll be better to get a piece you know you will get lots of wear from and enjoy wearing all the time.

Good luck building your jewellery wardrobe!

I agree with AndieAbroad.

In many ways, this necklace is a "Signature" Tiffany & Co. piece, but it may or may not be "Classic".

When you think of Tiffany & Co., most people immediate either picture an engagement ring or the Return to Tiffany tag bracelets. Those are Classic pieces that will never change. They may not be suitable for everyone, but they've become iconic as far as the Tiffany & Co. brand goes...

As far as this necklace, it is a gorgeous Tiffany & Co. piece that is obviously Tiffany and will wear well throughout the years. I've found that heavier pieces like this are quite durable and go with just about anything. Whether you're wearing jeans and a tee shirt or a little black dress, this necklace is very wearable. And I do not believe that this piece is "too young" for you. This is a simple piece, not overly frilly or feminine, not something that screams "teenager" or "first Tiffany piece". It's just a simple, beautiful necklace.

But is it Classic? My vote would be "No". If you're looking for something Classic, I agree that the Elsa Peretti Bean, Elsa Peretti Open Heart, Elsa Peretti Diamond by the Yard necklace, etc. would all be far better choices that would age well with you. These pieces aren't billboards bearing the Tiffany name, but they're recognizable worldwide as Tiffany & Co. and they are understated and classy.

Just my opinion, of course.

All I can say is that I've outgrown the RTT hearts. I have a few, a small , a medium with blue on back and the Tiffany notes. I am now getting daintier pieces. I guess I have outgrown and because I see the RTT everywhere. So Im guessing our tastes always change...

Honestly? Me, too.

I used to have a Return to Tiffany heart toggle necklace when I was in high school (ten years ago). I sold it to someone when I received the Return to Tiffany oval tag necklace as a gift from my then-husband when we became my nephew's Godparents (five years ago). I wore that necklace for several years, and then sold it to help fund my DBTY necklace...

Personally, I have outgrown the RTT line and moved on to more understated, subtle pieces of jewelry, like DBTY and the Bean and the Open Heart. These are still Classic Tiffany & Co., but they don't scream: "I'm Tiffany & Co.! Look at me and read the name!" ...And at 29, that's the way I like it! I'm a single Mom. I deal with daycare workers, and other mothers, etc... and I don't want them to see my jewelry. I want them to see me. My jewelry is an accent, so I like smaller pieces that compliment my style while not taking on a personality of their own.

My son's daycare teacher wore a mini bead bracelet with the mini heart. very subtle though... I think Ill end up selling alot of my RTT hearts to fund for other pieces definitely...

I associate these heavier silver pieces with "Tiffany" written on them with middle-schoolers. When my kids were in middle-school, I'd have sworn these were part of the girls' school uniform as it seemed every girl I saw was wearing one. My daughters did too, then outgrew them in high school. That said, I don't like logo'd jewelry, unless the logo is extremely discreet. I'd choose a more delicate piece.

Still leaning towards it.

I like DBTY but I think it's overpriced and I'm considering a solitaire diamond pendant from Blue Nile or elsewhere at some point. I am unsure if the open heart is too young for me but I think I'll eventually get one because I think it's the only way to get it out if my system! I can't get past the bean being a slightly weird piece yet I still kind of want one? Haha.

As for this, I guess I have it in my head that I want a signature piece for my first piece. Not sure why, perhaps it's because my interest in Tiffany has been sparked so late. I think it's a statement piece, but the lack of heart tags and the relatively plain toggle makes it something I can wear to work or out. Plus it's different to my everyday necklaces, which aren't Tiffany but are very dainty.

I guess I feel about this one similarly to how I feel about the open heart... The only way to get it out of my system is to buy it :).

I think that no heart tag might mean that I can wear it till I'm 50 or so with the right clothes.

Oh, to have a money tree! So much I want...

I think at the end of the day, you should get what you really love. If you really love this piece, feel that you can make it work with your clothes and lifestyle AND get lots of use out of it, then go for it.

I recently bought the rtt pendant, and yes, altho a lot of young girls wear it, i dont feel uncomfortable wearing it myself too and i think i shall still enjoy it even in a few years' time). (afterall, it is just a necklace, not a hot pink miniskirt, LOL!!) The toggle necklace, like the rtt is signature, but not necessarily classic. However, if you feel it suits you and that you will enjoy it, why not? Like what some of the others said, dont feel too pressurized abt getting what you think is considered "classic", unless that is what you really want.

I'm in my late twenties in reality but in my 40s or 50s in terms of style... I would classify this necklace as a classic piece. I'm also not really a fan of dainty jewelry either so I'd think nothing of wearing this often. I'm sure it will look beautiful on you. :smile1:

Agree. If it looks fabulous on you, that's all that really matters.

If you're only planning on getting one Tiffany piece, I would consider something that's been around longer, or that could be more versatile to go with more looks. I'm thinking of the bean, DBTY in SS, or a key, for instance. I tend to think that the pieces that don't shout Tiffany (not plastered with the brand in huge letters) are a bit 'older', and age better.

That being said, if you're going to get one of the chunky choker-style necklaces, I think the toggle one is the best choice by far.

Exactly!!!

I also echo what others have previousely said that there is a chance you might end up not wearing this piece in the future.. My 1st option would be the Key, 2nd is DBTY. Good luck!
