Hermes watches don’t hold their value?

One of mine came with a crocodile double tour strap (the quartz one)and because I too wash my hands a lot I changed that for a goatskin double strap that I had made.
My other watch came with the stainless steel strap but because its an automatic the movement and strap made it feel quite heavy (both watches are GM not PM size) so I changed that for a swift double tour strap and that has held up fine.
I think the straps are pretty durable except the crocodile.
I'm going to buy a barenia strap for my quartz watch shortly.
edited to add I wear my quartz watch with white dial daily..my other watch with black dial that came with the metal strap is a dressier watch
awww, I was hoping to add a croc strap watch to my collection....

Call me crazy but in two years I’ve purchased 3 H watches for myself and two for my DH. I have no doubt I will continue to buy more. I’ve never thought about them holding it’s value. I think none of my other designer watches have. I’m with you all. I bought them to enjoy and wear them all the time.
What are the three watches that you have? I have cape cod and been wanting the H one. Oh and my fiancé has the matching cape cod with me too. So you ain’t crazy

How is ur leather strap for Hermes holding up? I have a cape cod double tour (just got it this year). I only wear them on weekends so worried the leather strap won’t be holding up as I wash my hands a lot
As others have said the leather strap lasts a very long time. My double tour Barenia strap lasted many years, I have changed it only because I wanted a coloured one, but the Barenia is still usable.

I have the SO cape cod stainless steel with diamonds and Heure H in stainless steel. Third is a rose gold Nantucket. All of these are small face sizes. My next will be larger possibly cape cod, maybe the one I bought for my DH for Xmas if he doesn’t use it, or Nantucket.

This is most recent purchase.

Very few things, regardless of cost, hold their value, unless they are rare and in demand.
Over time, because the new items cost more and more, it can be possible to sell something you bought x years ago for more than you paid, but that figure will rarely match the current new price.
I think this is the main answer to OP's question. Not every watch even under very prestigious watch brands will hold their value, that also goes for Rolex and Pateks. We seem to be coming out of an era of extremely easy money which inflated the second-hand prices for many consumer goods. It didn't use to be the case just 10 - 15 years ago that everyone, including teens were buying everything from retail items like sneakers to virtual art to resell the next day for a qucik buck. A few birkins and kellys were sometimes on sale at the Paris sales back in the late 90s early 2000, even though those days are probably gone for good.

Hermes has a lot of iconic watch designs that are whimsical and beautiful, like the kelly cadenas watch, double tour bracelet or the médor. Their mechanical offerings lately are also pretty interesting and pretty well priced.

I don't know about retaining their value, but I have a stainless steel Cape Cod with diamonds, and 5 different straps to wear it with. I love it as a fashion statement, particularly when I can match my strap to my bag.
Can you change the straps at home? I really want to get another strap but I don’t want to have to bring it to store to change it everytime. TIA

Yes you can. I got a little tool with my watch, and they showed me how to do it. Takes about a minute to swap out straps. I'm always swapping. I have two double tour bands, one in black, one in gold, and three single tours. Gold, black and a white matte alligator. Looking to add a double tour rose sakura or other light pink.
