My Fjord Bolide is only a few years old and still looks great on the outside. I’m not sure what leather is used on the inside but it is starting has developed some wht marks. I think I read on this thread that Hermes spa does not treat the inside. Does anyone know if I used something to treat the inside, will they reject the bag in the future when the outside needs a spa treatment? TIA!
Cleaning the interior? Or treating the interior? Not sure what you mean...Certainly the soft lambskin lining of a bolide gets marks rather easily...but when you say marks what kind are you refering to? Have you just tried cleaning the inside? Cleaning your bag's interor shpuld not be grounds for the bag to be rejected for spa...VS spraying the inside with vinyl which of course would be frowned upon......

Thanks for your response Docride. I was planning on using appleguard cleaner (not the protectant). I've had good results cleaning my other leather bags & shoes with it. I just wanted to check with the "experts" here before I did anything.

The interior lambskin of a bolide is delicate in that if over conditioned it will darken and stretch out,and if too harsh a cleaner is used it may dis-color. So. take care to test a small hidden area first with your product and wait 24hrs to make sure you like the result.before proceeding to whole panels.OK? Good luck.:smile1:

bumping this fantastic thread... are there any video on tube or here about your work? all this buffing and cleaning business - would love to see it in action.

hi docride. i just bought an orange all leather garden party and to my horror had a blue jean color transfer already the first time i used it. ive been reading how some of the gals here just use fragrance and alcohol free wipes on their bags without leaving any marks on their bags. is it advisable for me to use that as well or do you recommend me using something else? thanks.

dear doc, I've always wondered whether there is anything I can do to remediate or minimize the musty/musky smell inside a vintage handbag (it's not a mothball smell). Putting mint or lavender sachets isn't strong enough to cover up the smell. Is there such a thing as a leather-fragranced sachet? Is there a leather conditioner that I could use on the inside to combat the musty/musky odor? Help?

Hi there,You can certainly try that but before you do I would use a soft pink eraser and gently remove the blue marks...It usually does the trick..Let me know how it goes..

Hi there lala28:smile1:
Baking soda sachets can help..(easily made with some cloth and string) also Freebreeze extra strength sprayed on some paper towels and placed inside the bag can help also...

BUT Cleaning the interior is your first job though so get some lexol PH leather wipes and get cleaning..pat the inside dry with a soft cloth...allow the bag to be open and dry entirely..you may find that much of the old smell will be lessened considerably.
So, start with the cleaning..it's chevre right? and let me know how it goes...
Cheers,doc

No mold or mildew. The inside is clean and pristine. The skins are supple. I dont know why it has that musky smell. Another bag I have from the early 60s is also pristine but has a similar smell. It's not offensive, I just like my things to be odorless.

Doc, have you ever heard of putting coffee grinds in a box, placing the bag on an elevated stand so that the bag doesn't touch the grinds, and then putting a lid on top of the box?

Hi Doc,

I have posted the pics of my restoration project of the vintage matt havanne croc clutch pre and post dog chew. Now I am on the next stage of cleaning and nourishing. I have cleaned with Fiebings leather lotion conditioned with Blackrock cleaner/conditioner and it is certainly looking healthier. But I am not sure how much further I can go. I have applied Blackrock very sparingly a few times and then buff but I think I am taking away colour rather than dirt - is that possible? A few areas at the edge of the scales are very dry and the texture is almost like fibrous cardboard. I have dapped Blackrock into these areas and left to soak in and then buffed. is there any thing else I can do?

Other than that it has turned into a really lovely little clutch and whilst Hermes Paris condemned it to the scrap heat with your help and $30 to the local cobbler I now have a lovely little clutch.

Thanks,

Gill

The photo is before polishing as the polished bag is downstairs and I am currently upstairs in a small room trying to calm down 3 terrified dogs - it is Bonfire night here in the UK and the fireworks just go on and on and on.
