Hi doc!

I know blackrock and obeanuf (which are wax based) are good for general leather but what about napped, velvet leather? What do you recommend for those kind?

Sorry, do you mean Suede leather by napped leather? And Nubuck or Distressed for velvet leather?

I say for general up keep and cleaning a suede brush (For High Nap)and a pumice stone (For low nap) can help keep these leathers looking good...

Some folks want to weather shield this leathers ..Is that what you are asking about?

Firstly, may I make this exceedingly clear> Working on these sorts of leather can be very tricky...there is a high possiblity for possibly uncorrectable error in novice hands... please note use caution if attempting this sort of thing.

High Napped leather/Suede (the roughout or splits)can be protected from weather by utilizing a product made specifically for Suede..there are several to choose from ...however the main thing to make sure you have on hand is a suede brush..and you want to be ever so careful when applying the protectant..best options are misting products sparingly applied from a distance of 12" (so as to prevent.avoid drip or splotch marks) and then using the suede brush to bring up the nap... repeat if needed.

Low napped/ abraided smooth surfaced leathers maybe this is what you mean when you say velvet leathers? can be approached in a similar manner as High Napped Suede leather however you will want a pumice stone in stead of a suede brush for finishing.

Nubuck or distressed leathers can do well with Meltonian All Purpose Cleaner Conditioner... a couple of rounds of this product can help prevent water marks..even if you have a water mark at first it will tend to dry clean and without a permanent mark...

ALWAYS TEST A SMALL HIDDEN AREA AND WAIT 24HRS BEFORE PROCEEDING TO WORK AN ENTIRE PANEL OR WHOLE BAG.

Ahh, but you can! Just pass some of your own wisdom/knowledge along to someone else with a generous spirit;) Cheers!doc

OK! well I am almost finished Law School, am specializing in Intellectual Property Law (the kind of Law that makes fakes illegal and authentic bags protected by copyright)

So in the Docride spirit, if anyone faces any legal issues in their search to attain beautiful leather-goods (IP or otherwise) I can probably help / point you in the right direction ...

this is probably the wrong place for this post. Sorry!

hi there - this is not a Hermes as you can see (hope ok to post here)- but my beloved vintage CHANEL with interior mirror. Its not in too bad a condition, and I use it a lot, so I do not want to send it to the boutique for a spa. Is it possible to recommend a simple leather treatment to nourish and add some shine to the lambskin. I live in London and I could always order things on line... thank you much!

Hi Doc :)
Quick question about my black box birkin (2003). I've had fantastic luck keeping it pretty with using the blackrocks - thank you for that! (even rescued her from a fall in to an icy puddle last winter :faint: )

I've recently noticed some colour loss on the edges/piping and a bit on the handle. What's the best way to teat this? It doesn't looks like scuffing, just colour loss.. is that odd? Any idea what night be causing it?

Thanks!!!

Hi there, yes color loss can and does happen... You can either polish the bag with a high pigmented polish on the color loss areas or do a small bit of color dye touch up only where needed...(it's removable if you are worried about it)Which would you prefer?

I have black Meltonian (& Kiwis - which is better?) at home, so for the sake of convenience & not having to buy more stuff, that would be my preference :flowers:

Both are good polishes... Although I'm not sure which has the highest pigment amount... So, go ahead and apply the polish with a applicator massage it into the leather on to the areas of color loss (you will want to have almost a thin even paste-like coating on those areas... Allow the polish to dry and then buff (much of the excess will come off)...see how it looks..you can always repeat...Let me know how it goes...:smile1:

Thanks you so much!!!
What should I use to buff it with? The brush or cloth?

Wow, buffing & polishing is hard work! LOL.
Thanks so much for your help Doc!!!! She looks muuuuch better!
Have I mentioned how much I love boxcalf :love::love:
(whenever I work on my bag, I remeber exactly why :D )

My Fjord Bolide is only a few years old and still looks great on the outside. I’m not sure what leather is used on the inside but it is starting has developed some wht marks. I think I read on this thread that Hermes spa does not treat the inside. Does anyone know if I used something to treat the inside, will they reject the bag in the future when the outside needs a spa treatment? TIA!
