SUCH a great question! If I were a betting woman, I think H would want to position itself as a go to for high-end make up artists as a finishing product (at this moment I just don’t think that H cosmetics have the horsepower to be mainstay application products like MU4ever or Armani or even Fenty or “unbranded” theatrical makeup). Like I think they would be ecstatic if Cate Blanchett’s MUA said we topped off the look with Hermès lip oil in shade XYZ. They, however, are simply not making formulations in depth enough to be full red carpet looks. I do, however, wonder if they’ll ever go down the route of a celeb face for beauty.

For every day buyers, I do think they care about quality because there’s a lot to lose. Most H makeup customers are already clients of the brand (versus other luxury brands who eventually cultivate RTW clients from their cosmetics buyers). While they are working on developing some level of recession-proof first floor clientele, H’s main focus now and in the past has been on top tier clients. Alienating big spenders with a poor blush formulation is a bad look. Which is why I agree with @880 that established SAs don’t spend a ton of time with their $$ clients in the cosmetics sections. Again if I were a betting gal, I would believe it’s because they want to give those products lines a bit more time to be proven out before they actually recommend for purchase.

ETA: to answer your question more directly…

I think H sees the financial benefit in developing a cosmetics line. I truly think some customers were clamoring for it and they responded (now when will they listen to our cries for sunglasses). It’s neither a selfish grab nor is it altruistic. I do think they overestimated how much the product market has developed over the last 15 years and (with hubris) by keeping the line in house are missing out on cutting edge chemical science. I’ve no doubt that they will improve, but likely will cap out at Chanel level (and that will take time). I think they care but got caught up in anything you can do, I can do better and failed.
I think they're trying to position them like Chanel but it will take time and they'll need to improve their products. While I do like their lipstick and the highlighter. I'm not "over the moon". At least I would have presented a complete line of products when presenting eye make up: eyeliner, browliner etc...And I'll choose a brand for their proven skincare/makeup establishments over a brand that is known for their superb leather craftmanship. Or do we think if they can work magic with leather they can also work with our skin?

Though I do think their make up line is good for their brand awareness. Make up is one of the most shared post on social media. It's relative cheap, easy to acquire and easy content making. Where as for travel desinations or bags you'll need to spend more or have more patience.

Does anyone have the Rouge Amarelle in the lip oil?
Just wondering if it is a cherry looking lips after having a popsicle or more subdued?
I just like Rose Kola & wanting to try another shade..TIA

For some reason it comes out pink on my lips and not cherry red at all! It’s definitely more vivid than Rose Kola; but I don’t find any of the lip oils particularly impactful (as in high pigment / long lasting; they are definitely lip oils), especially if you tissue off at all. And I think on me it is essentially extremely accurate to the color they have on the models’ mod shots for this shade.

Here are some badly shot comparisons for you between the 2 shades:

Arm swatch (rouge one on top rose bottom)

Rose on my top lip and Rouge on my bottom lip. This is after putting it on thick and not smacking my lips (since that would mix the colors).

All under yellow indoor light; no filtering.

Also I realized I’ve never updated my thoughts in this thread, but I purchased the eye brushes, a mascara and an eyeshadow. For me the eyeshadow was nothing special; the brushes were a thumbs down; the mascara though I loved so I actually went and got more colors!! Are there other (much cheaper) mascaras that I also love? Yes. But I think it may have been my favorite H beauty item yet.

As always though when it comes to beauty whether something works or not can vary wildly depending on person. If you can try it in person always give that a go first! If it helps at all, my other go-to mascaras are Too Faced better than sex (for the midrange) and L’Oréal lash paradise (for the budget pick). Also some Japanese drug store brands!

I really do like the blushes - they sit very well all day long.
I agree. I also love the blush brush. I think the blushes and the brush work well together. I have Rose Blush and so far this color has been my favorite. I use Plein Air brush for powdering or soft contour. After a few washes, the brushes have softened overtime. Honestly, I liked them better when they were a bit stiffer new out of the box, but still no issues for me. Iam planning to purchase the Precise brush but my country has not received it yet. Love the color coded ring on the handles.

Thanks for this.. It just looks like one's lips are bitten...

Just wanted to say that I’m very pleased with the nail polish! I used the base coat, the color in 2 coats, and then the top coat and it has held up very well for a little over a week! I use my hands a lot and there is no chipping. There is some wear at the edge of the tips but it might be because I didn’t paint the edges the way the manicurist does. I was away and it was kind of an “emergency” situation where my gel polish chipped off and I needed to repair. The polish itself goes on very evenly and it was easy to use. I also had some Sally Hansen polish and the consistency was totally different, and not in a good way. Anyways, just wanted to say I like the nail polish!

just curious what makes you love the mascaras? I always have bad luck with smudging and can only seem to tolerate a tubing mascara

Oh I’m not sure about if they are as long lasting / smudge proof as what you are looking for just because I tend to not have that much issues in those areas in general with a lot of mascaras I’ve tried.
To answer the question, I quite simply love how they made my lashes look - lengthened and thickened but not clumping, and in my case they were long lasting without issues. Finally (obviously besides the black one) I found the colors very fun and wearable and it’s worth a try for people wary of colored mascaras.

Hi, the refill of the lip balm is sold out everywhere. Does anybody know, if this is just a temporary thing?
And are the rosy lip perfector the same like the balm only with some colour?
