I recently acquired a lizard CDC from one of the local stores - it didn't come with a CITES.
I was told by my SA that the CITES is given out for exotic bags. (Didn't ask about SLGs unfortunately.)

Is this a practice peculiar to SG? I've seen the certificate peeking out of the boxes of exotic CDCs revealed by international members, and from online resellers.:shrugs:

When I bought my first exotic bag from Liat Towers, there was no accompanying Cites. Slightly later, when I wanted to take it travelling, I had to ask them over and over again for Cites. I was told that Cites will not be issued to local residents and I would not be able to get one unless I had an overseas residence. So I had to use one of our London addresses on the Cites certificate.

Afterwards, I never received any Cites for my subsequent exotic purchases (bags or otherwise), and I was too tired to try and wrangle one each and every time.

As I understand it, the Cites is issued if required for export overseas, which is why Cites is given by FSH (although lately there is just a line on the receipt stating for personal use). When I buy exotics from the US within the US, I get a Cites from France into the US, but if I have exotics shipped from the US, the items need to go through US Fish & Wildlife, which then issues a Cites from US to Singapore.

Maybe Singapore customs doesn't care too much about importing/exporting endangered species? Wouldn't really be surprised if this issue is not really terribly high on the customs agenda... :shrugs:

TPF is truly a fount of knowledge!
I'm a local gal - I suppose that's the reason why. My SA told me if I was going to bring the item overseas, I could check it in or put it in my bag...:wondering
I suppose I should just leave it at home!

Does anyone have experience bringing small exotic items back from the US? Assuming if DH gets lucky on his next trip...I'd be  if it were confiscated by US Customs!

Cheers!

I do it all the time. I sometimes fly to the US just to collect an exotic, rather than wait for it to go through Fish & Wildlife. If you buy from the US in person, you would have the Cites issued by Hermes France to Hermes US, so that shouldn't be a problem leaving the US.

I haven't had any trouble bringing anything out of either US or Europe. But I usually take the items out of their boxes, place it in my handbag/carry-on, and check in the empty box. I find less hassle when it is out of the box and being used.

i don't think you go through "customs" when you leave the US except for luggage security check.

i do know that certain states ban the sale of alligators/pythons (i think California but might be wrong)

OT, i bought ombre lizzie CDC in HK and no CITES was issued. Neither was I issued a CITES when I bought an ostrick birkin from FSH last year. I was told that none was needed. But when I bought my amethyst gator CDC in Taipei, my SA told me to get one just in case. In all three cases, I hand carried or worn the item and was never stopped by customs while travelling.

Thanks for the tip pyrexia! And thank you for chiming in hanyeu!:flowers:

I'm concerned about the luggage security checks. Travelling to the US requires a fair amount of patience at the airports, and I wouldn't want to cause DH unnecessary inconvenience, KWIM?:s

Of course, I'm just counting my chickens...he could just as well score nothing from the H store!

Hi all, hello I'm new here. Can you give me the information about how long do I have to wait to order a croco birkin (size 30) in Hermes Singapore? Or do you think better I just fly to Tokyo to get it straight away? It is more expensive in Japan though. Thank you so much everyone. :-)

Seriously, you probably are better off flying to Tokyo. Get a trip out of it and get something fabulous without the frustration of waiting and the aggravation of trying to get onto the SG waitlist.

To be honest, unless you have an extremely fantastic relationship with your SA, it is unlikely you'll be offered a croc. Our exotics quota is extremely limited and from what I hear, every exotic bag is almost always spoken for even before it reaches our shores.

I went to Hermes Liat today and this middle age SA lady told me that they don't take exotic waiting list. I'm so sad. Very sad. They only bring the colours. :-(((((((((( Is this true, ladies?????
The good think is, my Mom will accompany me to go to Giza in 2 more weeks. :-) Wish me luck. :-)

Thank you so much ladies. Have a nice evening to you.
